PASTURE management ADVERTORIAL

Fresh direction for groundspread professionals Peter McQuinn has been helping create healthier pastures and healthier profits for farmers in the Whangarei region since 1974 — the year he took over his father’s successful groundspreading business, established directly after the Second World War.

pasture, otherwise wasted material can be used to boost pasture performance. If any proof was needed of the versatile efficiency of the K-Two, it came when Peter travelled to a new herd home site in Purua — not to disperse fertiliser, but to lay wood chip for a new feed pad. The rugged tines of the K-Two made short work of the wood chip and of the job — and still gave Peter the option to switch between a variety of different grades and varieties of nutrient-rich muck and fert on a job by job basis.

During his time working on the land Peter has seen technologies change, with ever more advanced and powerful machinery coming on line to assist in the job of modern agriculture. But a couple of things have remained the same. Firstly — and most importantly — it still takes good soil to grow healthy pasture. This has been true since the dawn of civilisation, and it’s still true today, backed up by rigorous scientific tests. As the old adage says, ‘you get out of soil what you put in’. The other point which remains very valid is this — in agriculture, as in any business, adapting and expanding is the key to lasting success.

With both of these tenets in mind Peter’s company, McQuinn Groundspread, has recently expanded its fleet to encompass a new K-Two muck spreader. This powerful British-built machine has enabled McQuinn Groundspread to grow beyond the traditional boundaries of groundspreading and fert application, into a whole new range of on-farm tasks. With a high capacity, and a set of extremely effective rear-mounted vertical rotors to shred and disperse even dry fert product, this latest addition to the McQuinn stable has already seen plenty of action on Northern farms. By dispersing substances like chicken manure and drain cleanings across
