Businessman recognised for excellence
Whangarei businessman, Wayne Hill, director of Hill Construction, was presented a Distinction Award at the recent Coresteel Buildings national conference. “Wayne has been an instrumental franchisee in terms of pushing the Coresteel product to its full capabilities. His construction wisdom and passionate vision set him aside from many. Within the Coresteel group he continues to be a great advocate and mentor,” says general manager of Coresteel Buildings NZ, Haemish Reid. Due to Wayne’s drive and determination, the Coresteel Buildings Northland operation has become a dominant player in the Northland construction market and has performed consistently for many years. “I have no doubt that the systems and processes that Wayne applied in the earlier years of the business will certainly continue to be upheld and bring success for business partners, James Senescall and Simon Eilering,” says Haemish. Coresteel Buildings Northland has continually featured highly in the National Coresteel Buildings Awards and won Franchise of the Year in 2013
and 2015, was runner-up in 2014, and took out the Overall Excellence Award in 2014. The franchise has also won the Highest Volume of Sales Award for six consecutive years. Hill Construction was founded by Wayne over 30 years ago as a construction company. In 1983 the company was incorporated as Hill Construction Ltd. In 2009 Hill Construction bought the Coresteel Northland franchise, adding to the breadth of projects that Hill Construction could take on. In 2013 Hill Construction also purchased the Coresteel Buildings Bay of Plenty franchise, which is based in Tauranga. “Whist it has been two years of hard slog breaking into a tight-knit, tightly held area, we are now starting to gain traction,” says Wayne Hill. “With the quality product we have, the future looks rosy for us in this area. “Some years ago I saw the potential of cold formed steel structures and
realised that if we didn’t become involved, we would lose considerable work to this innovative new way of building.” Hill Construction purchased The Barn Company’s, now Coresteel Buildings, Northland franchise and began competing in the small steel shed market. “It wasn’t long before I realised that we needed to be in the larger commercial/industrial market, as the product was so innovative.” At this time, local Donovan brothers, Brett and Kyle, purchased the national Barn Company franchise and shortly after rebranded to Coresteel Buildings, to encompass the new direction. “Through their exper tise in engineering and forward thinking they redesigned the whole process to fit squarely in the larger commercial and industrial market. Hill Construction’s involvement with Coresteel has been a game changer and now accounts for 80 percent of our work. Coresteel Buildings
