 Gill Teirney displays her wares at the first Aratapu Arts Festival held recently at Aratapu Tavern. She was one of the many stall holders and other attractions included live opera, balloon art, face painting and wine and cheese tasting. Proprietor, Donice Hall-Morris, says she was very happy with the day and personally spent a small fortune on quilts, jewellery and other crafts. Around 100 people attended and Donice would like to begin a monthly art and craft market next summer.

 Maungaturoto residents turned out in force to raise funds for cancer with a colourful Pink Ribbon breakfast at Sugarbelle’s cafe. Cafe owner, Marta Lawrence described the turnout as “amazing, and the local business community topped up the fund-raising coffers with a huge list of raffle prizes and donations.” On top of that, the ladies in pink went away very well fed. The international breakfast campaign began over 10 years ago as an initiative of the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise funds for breast cancer research.
