Dargaville’s REAL taste of Thai

Jo’s

going strong today. Try anything from their super-fresh seafood menu, or treat yourself to a chicken, bacon and brie burger — a personal favourite. We’re well served for delicious Thai cuisine here in Dargaville, with two restaurants offering different regional flavours from the south-east Asian nation. Whether you enjoy mild or spicy, exotic or traditional, there’s only one piece of advice which suits. You have to try both! During Field Days the local Dargaville Club is open to all visitors, offering legendary hospitality and live music along with hearty meals. Club members offer all our Field Days guests a warm welcome, and invite them to drop in for visit. Right in the heart of town, the mighty Northern Wairoa Hotel will be in full celebration mode, with their renowned, sizzling steak dinners and royal-quality roasts the pick of the bunch. Test your skill against the raging mechanical bull for a chance to take home $1,000 cash, or rock the night away with live music from top local bands in the historic tavern’s bar. ¢

And there’s just so much on offer this year that we thought a quick run-down of some must-see and must-taste local delicacies was in order, to help you plan your stay. Fans of old-fashioned, home-style fare will be well satiated by a trip to Jo’s Home Cookery — a Dargaville institution where there’s always something fresh on the menu. Try a homemade pie or add an order of the region’s famous kumara chips as a side to a tasty burger. There’s more freshly made goodness to be had at the Horseshoe Cafe, where their jampacked filled rolls are a local legend. And for an evening in good company you can’t go past the local RSA, famous for their generous helpings of good Kiwi tucker, served up with an ice cold pint. If you’re travelling into town via Ruawai, a stop off at the all-new Ellecee’s Cafe is a must. New management and a new menu make this a little gem of a place for road-trippers, and their coffee is reputed to be some of the best around! Here in Dargaville one name has been synonymous with great takeaways since our local Ford dealership was polishing up Model T’s. That name is Matich’s Premier Restaurant, and they are still
