Global gourmets hooked on the Funky Fish

Global and local gourmet travellers are learning what Kaipara locals have known for the past 11 years — the Funky Fish at Bayly’s beach is a top eatery in a truly stunning location. The Lonely Planet Guide, the Gastromrider Challenge and more have ranked the popular local spot as one of our region’s treasures. And that’s just the beginning. Accolades from near and far have been a feature of the Funky Fish’s 11year history — they’ve just celebrated their birthday on December 11th. It’s not just the delights of the popular eatery’s menu, either — the Funky Fish has garnered a reputation as a rocking musical destination as well, with bands and fans alike enjoying the laid-back courtyard atmosphere and the stunning surroundings. Owner Beth Kelliher has watched her business grow over the last decade, from its origins in partnership with chef Dave Northover and his wife Kate, a talented Chef, Anna Miller and Funky Fish designer and artist. And while the artful murals, owner Beth Kelliher all smiles after rave reviews decorations and menu specials have changed from time to time, the Funky Fish has remained an iconic part of the local community, with its signature dishes renowned far and wide. Guesthouse – B&B “I’ve never felt I owned the place,” says Beth “because the community have really taken ownership!” It’s this relationship with the locals which has given the Funky Fish a big part of its legendary reputation, and it shines through in the very relaxed, utterly Kiwi vibe of the place.
