Coaches Commission Report This has been a thought-provoking year for the Coaches Commission with the addition of the experienced coach Jess Reid to the commission. Coach education and development is consistently one of the main elements of the SVA’s development strategy. The Coaches Commission is charged with the responsibility for constructing and delivering coach development programmes, and monitoring their success in achieving the specified aims. The Coaches Commission expertise has been effectively exploited by the coaching manager Ioannis Panayiotakis delivering against the targets agreed and continuing the excellent and collective work of Scottish Volleyball coach education. The following is a snapshot of some of the key events and achievements for 2015 – 2016:

2015-2016 Female Coaching apprenticeship system development with personalised pathway for each of the participants • Five level I UKCC courses held in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Linlithgow and Aberdeenshire • Two very successful UKCC level II courses presented at Edinburgh and Glasgow • SVA Level III award presented at Ravenscraig associated with the Men's National Team Christmas Camp, which acted as a vehicle for learning and mentoring for the course candidates. • 12 one-day ‘Introduction to Coaching Volleyball’ courses and teacher in-service days presented in various locations. • Coaching conference featuring world class presenters Athanasios Papageorgiou, Professor David Lavallee and Alexander Steel at Stirling Court Hotel. • 10 Continuous Personal Development opportunities on various topics; highlights included Audrey Cooper’s captivating delivery on volleyball defensive systems, the ‘Reflection Starting with the Coach’ and the ‘Performance Profiling’ psychology workshops, the data volley statistic workshop and the ‘Coach as a Facilitator’ seminar. • There was a continuation to a coach education programme for Beach Volleyball with a workshop being delivered by Audrey Cooper. The successful delivery of the new pilot programme for the ‘Introduction to beach coaching award’ at Edinburgh, St Andrews and Aberdeen by the coaching manager Ioannis Panayiotakis has been a promising development. • There was a series of Coach Education courses delivered for Trainee Teachers at Strathclyde University • The ‘Fast track’ programme with Thomas Dowens was very well received and attended by both coaches and participants • The successful introduction of the pilot programme ‘Regional Development Day: a Community of Practice’ at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh and Oban • Coach of the Year Award went to Ally Jack and Jess Reid I would like to sincerely thank all the members of the Coaches Commission, the staff tutors and the SVA Office staff for all their support.
