Saving energy in your office Looking for some quick and easy ways to save energy in your office? Follow our quick tips for a few small changes you can implement today to start saving money on your business energy right away. Computers and office equipment Office equipment such as computers or photocopiers consumes a large proportion of the overall energy used in your office space. Unplugging phone and laptop chargers when they are not in use is important, not only for energy efficiency, but for safety as well. Put your computer to sleep whenever you’re away from your desk for longer than 10 minutes and remember to switch it off when you leave the office. Plugging your equipment into a power board will make it easier to switch off the monitors too. Leaving photocopiers and printers on standby overnight can waste enough energy to boil a kettle 30 times. Switching off can save hundreds of pounds per year. Lighting By simply switching off lights or relying on natural daylight where possible, you can cut your lighting costs by 15 per cent. Installing motion activated lighting can help if getting into the habit of turning lights off proves to be challenging. Replacing your incandescent lights with Energy Star qualified light bulbs will also cut the costs, as they last up to 10 times longer, generate less heat and use less energy compared to standard light bulbs.

Heating and air conditioning Make sure the air conditioning is not on when the windows or doors are open. Switch it off when the heating is on, and remember that raising the office temperature to anything above 19 °C will increase your energy bill up by 8 per cent. We are here to help

Kitchen Make sure you don’t leave the fridge door open for any longer than necessary as it might bring the temperature up. Drinks machines can be timed to be off overnight and at the weekends when there is no one in the office.
