Peace Bytes
“Peace Bytes is transforming the lives of marginalised young people across Northern Ireland and the cross-border region on a daily basis.”
DESCRIPTION
GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE
Marginalised young people living in deprived areas of Northern Ireland can be vulnerable to being influenced by paramilitaries and radical issues around religious identity. In response, the Peace Bytes programme worked with young people aged 14-24-years-old to help them to become leaders and advocates for peace in and between local communities in Antrim and Newtownabbey, Derry/Londonderry and East Inishowen in Donegal. Through cultural exchange across communities, young people can earn qualifications and are supported by dedicated youth workers who encourage them to participate more actively within society. The programme provides a safe place for young people to explore their own identities, challenge discrimination and explore diverse cultural identities, while building mutual respect underpinned by acceptance.
