Mobile Device Management Consumerization of IT - defined in simple terms as the use of technologies that can easily be provisioned by non-technologists. Consumerization of IT not only saves money and increases business agility, but also improves productivity.
BYOD [Bring Your Own Device] is one of the initiatives to achieve consumerization. BYOD policies allow the usage of personal devices in one’s workplace and use them to connect to office network. With rapid adaptation of mobile devices like laptops, smart phones, and tablets across the world, mobility has become an important parameter to consider in an enterprise. These days, managing and securing mobile devices has become the top priority for enterprises. In this article we are going to discuss on Mobile Device Management (MDM). MDM is one of the key concern area for the IT staff as mobility is evolving in super fast. Mobile Device Management: MDM is a software that secures, monitors, manages, and supports the mobile devices and typically includes over-the-air distribution of applications, data, and configuration settings. Recommended Features: Some of the recommended features of typical MDM solutions are: Support multiple vendor devices (Android, iOS,Windows, etc.,) Ability to provision users and their mobile devices.
Cloud based communication, so that it is easy to be in touch with devices through over-the-air transmission. Easy deployment of required apps. Remote configuration, management, and security. Remote device tracking. Backup and restore functionality of corporate data or container as well as wiping the corporate data as and when needed. Logging and reporting for compliance usage. Communication with other mobility softwares like Mobile Information Management (MIM), Mobile File Management (MFM), and printing apps. Communication with other end-point management software Data encryption and decryption. Interface with LDAP, SMTP & other services. As the mobility is the evolving area, so much research is happening in the related areas. Containerization is a concept in the mobility domain to separate the personal data from the corporate data in mobile devices.
