booth 454 hello! My studio is called Nottene which is pronounced [nuh-ten-uh] and it is a Norwegian word that means nuts. (crack!) My illustration work comes from a practice of drawing the everyday in order to work on being more present in the “now. This is my debut at Surtex, but I have 10 years experience as an art director, designer, & illustrator. I look forward to new collaborations and interesting new partners, and of course lots of beautiful new products! I could go on all day about how the objects in our everyday world make us who we are, but instead I will share my official bio info..... The illustration studio NOTTENE will be presenting for the first time at SURTEX. We are pleased to show a new collection inspired by the seasons & everyday objects, in watercolors & colored pencils in lovely colors. Please stop by BOOTH 454 and see! With an MA in textiles from Central St Martins, Kimberly has worked from east coast to west, from the UK & Europe in publishing, fashion, and art. She has worked for Coach, Hussein Chalayan, Peter Jensen, and the Denver Art Museum, among others. She creates custom illustration and textile work out of her studio in Philadelphia. She has freckles. Please reach out for an appointment at the show.

forth. I work a lot in traditional media; pens, pencils & paint. And that gets messy! I also enjoy the breath of fresh air that comes with cleaning up almost as much as I love the fun of making a big mess. is your studio loud or quiet? I always start off loud and then as I get deep into a project it gets quieter and quieter. are you neat or messy? Are you kidding?! No, really I go back and

favorite color? Can anyone really have only one? It’s usually combinations I love. Right now I’m into palettes of gray, pale lemon, pistachio and a lovely pink nougat color, but I also adore warm & cozy ones with rich browns & eggplants that make me a teeny bit excited for fall (already!).

hobbies? I seem to play house a lot with my daughters, but I love collecting junk, riding the train, exploring, & of course, drawing. biggest adventure? Buying a house! We live in an old row home in Philadelphia and it’s a wonderful rollercoaster of renovation, repair, & decoration. dream job? I would love to do a home line....sheets, curtains, upholstery fabric. The really big pieces!
