SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE
AFTER TWO FLASH FUNDRAISERS,
the Sisters raised $30,000 for the Notre Dame Sisters on the Ukrainian border and for Catholic Relief Services working with Ukrainian refugees. The Sisters were honored that friends, family, and supporters heard the call for help and were incredibly generous.
The war in Ukraine began in late February of 2022, and within two weeks, Sisters were reaching out for funds to support Catholic Relief Services, while they learned more about what the European Notre Dame Sisters needed and how they were helping Ukrainians.
Weeks later, the Sisters raised funds to support work in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany. Here are some highlights:
● The Sisters in the Czech Republic are housing refugees from Ukraine. On the feast of St. Joseph they had a special Mass. The refugees prepared their specialty foods and a concert, “Light for Ukraine,” was held in the chapel of the Sisters.
● In Slovakia, which is on the border of Ukraine, Sisters take care of 13 refugees in a house next to their convent and welcome refugees crossing into Slovakia, offering information on local services.
● Sisters in small towns helped provide food and clothing for the refugees.
● Others are donating weeks at a time working at the Ukrainian border with volunteers.
The work continues as the situation in Ukraine remains unstable. We look forward to more updates about our Sisters’ work to support Ukrainians with the help of these generous donations.
