July 1, Boardman, Oregon - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Kansas City District will resume Remedial

Investigation field activities in October 2023 at the former Boardman Air Force Range (AFR), a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) located approximately 5.5 miles southwest of Boardman. The field activities will determine the nature and extent (what, how much, and where) of potential unexploded ordnance which may remain within two areas of the former Boardman AFR from past military use.

Initial Remedial Investigation (RI) field activities occurred in 2019. The investigation is part of a larger nationwide effort by the USACE to investigate possible environmental

The RI field activities will be conducted within two areas of the former Boardman AFR; a turret gunnery range (8,468 acres), and a munitions disposal area (157 acres).

The RI field activities may involve surveying with a metal detector or other specialized instruments, investigating individual subsurface items, and collecting soil and/or water samples.
