Phoenix Concert Band to Perform in Aid of The Crypt Phoenix Concert Band will perform a fiery musical assortment at St George’s Church at 7.30pm on Saturday 20th October, in aid of St George’s Crypt, the homeless charity, which is currently fundraising for a muchneeded new van to replace their current vehicle, which is nearly falling apart! The charity relies on it to collect food, furniture and other items. Phoenix Concert Band is a large wind orchestra that plays a rich variety of music from film and musical theatre to swing and popular classics. It is committed to raising money whenever possible for local, national and international causes. This concert will include selections from the Lion King, Indiana Jones, Wicked and West Side Story – together with lovely home-baked interval goodies, this promises to be a great event. “We’re delighted to team up with St George’s Crypt for a second time to raise money for their inspirational work”, said Hilary Pattison, Chair of Phoenix Concert

Yorkshire Yarners is a facebook knitting group around Cookridge, Ireland Wood and West Park, that decided to raise some money for Cancer Support Yorkshire. They hit on the idea of doing an a-la-Calendar Girls calendar and had great fun putting it together. Eight members participated and the photography (by Paul Melling) was done in three locations – Armley Mills, Coldspring Mills and Elmet Alpacas. Cancer Support Yorkshire supports people affected by the practical, financial and emotional issues of cancer and helps them have a better quality of life. All services are provided by a team of dedicated volunteers. These services are free and are made possible through generous donations and fundraising events. The calendar can be purchased via PayPal at yorkshireyarners@ mail.com. For further information about Cancer Support Yorkshire, visit www.csyorkshire.org.uk
