A plea for help! The Adel Neighbourhood Forum has reached a critical stage in its development with two important issues coming together at the same time. The first is the development proposal opposite St John the Baptist Church; the second, the process of achieving statutory recognition of the Adel Neighbourhood Plan. The Forum is grateful for financial support from ‘Supporting Communities in Neighbourhood Planning’. However this will be consumed by the necessary research to complete the Neighbourhood Plan. Additional resources are needed to fund professional advice for our
opposition to the development proposals on the grounds of traffic, heritage and environment, and an unsustainable social and education infrastructure. David Wilson Homes (DWH) and Hallam Land are pressing ahead with their proposals. In the first application the Council received a planning application for 88 homes on the upper northern fields, which separate them from Centurion Fields, on Holt Avenue. The proposed access is off Otley Road. A second application for around 60 homes on the field next to Centurion Fields has also been made. The community did not receive any notification from the developers that they were submitting their applications, despite giving an undertaking that they would do so. Cllr Barry Anderson arranged a public meeting with residents, developers, planning officers and other relevant officers from Leeds City Council on 8th May. A report will follow next month and details will be on our website. The next step in achieving statutory recognition is
to produce a draft neighbourhood plan. This will be the subject of a community engagement exercise that will enable residents and other interested parties to have their say before the final document is produced.
