NCTC head coach Barry Dowers enters his eighth season at the helm of the Pioneers baseball program. The 2015 season marked a major milestone in the Pioneers program when Dower’s club captured the first Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) title in school history. The Pioneers also reached the Region XIII championship game where they were defeated by Century College for the right to advance to the NJCAA Division III national championship series. Dowers enters the 2017 season as the head pioneer baseball coach with the second most career wins, trailing only former head coach, Terry Wiseth in that category. The Pioneers also completed back to back twenty plus win seasons in 2014 and 2015; the first time since 2008 and 2009 that the program featured back to back seasons with twenty or more wins. Dowers teams have been characterized by strong pitching and defense.
Prior to taking the reins of the baseball program at Northland, the Thief River Falls native served in the role of assistant softball coach at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, Minnesota for two years before taking the head varsity softball job during the 2008-2009 school year. As the head coach in 2008-2009, Dowers was named the conference Coach of the Year for softball.
