Day 4: Aldersund – Træna (5 km + boat) Enjoy the bicycle ride from Aldersund to Stokkvågen, before taking the express boat to Træna, the oldest fishing village in Norway. Visit the island of Sanna and the cave Kirkhelleren. From Mount Gompen, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Helgeland coast. Accommodation: Træna Gjestegård or Træna Rorbuferie. Day 5: Træna – Flostrand (20 km + boat) Explore Træna on two wheels. Be sure to include a visit to Petter Dass Chapel on Husøy, where Northern Norway’s most famous poet used to preach in the 18th century. After returning to Stokkvågen in the afternoon, continue riding to Flostrand, in the direction of Mo i Rana. Accommodation: Tent. Day 6: Flostrand – Mo i Rana ( ca 60 km) The final leg of our journey takes us to the town of Mo i Rana. Attractions include the old quarter and marina of Moholmen, and the rest of the town offers concerts, pubs and shopping opportunities. Accommodation: Many options, see page 65-66.

ROUTE 4: NESNA – LOVUND – TRÆNA

Three days. Total distance: Take the express boat from Nesna and enjoy “island hopping” between Helgeland’s outermost islands. Below is a suggested itinerary for a trip from Nesna, to Lovund and Træna, that you can start on a Wednesday or Friday.

Day 2: Seløy Kystferie – Sandnessjøen (approx. 20 km) Join us for a RIB boating adventure on the open seas! How about a photo safari or one of the other activities we offer? Head towards Flostad ferry quay, situated approx. 14 km from Seløy. Your journey passes long sandy beaches and sheltered coves, with extended views of the Seven Sisters peaks (De syv søstre), and the ocean. Be sure to visit Herøy Church, popularly called the Helgeland Cathedral, and Herøy Rural Museum, before taking the ferry to Søvik. For accommodation, head to Sandnessjøen Camping, 5 km north in the direction of Sandnessjøen and the airport, or to Offersøy Camping, 15 km south towards Tjøtta. Other accommodation: See p. 39 or visithelgeland.com Day 3: Offersøy – Sandnessjøen (30–35 km) From Søvik there is a trail to the summit of Stortind, the northernmost peak of the range known as De Syv Søstre (The Seven Sisters). Søvik is also the trailhead for all seven peaks. Cycling from Offersøy, you’ll pass Alstahaugtunet, the

Petter Dass Museum and Alstahaug Church; after another 5 km, the road to De Syv Søstre will be on your right. You might also consider a hike up Vettfjellet, 2.5 hours return, or the long circuit up the ridge and back via Søvikskaret, which is also a 2.5 hour trip. About 1 km before Sandnessjøen, you’ll pass Sandnes, the old Viking chieftain seat. The town of Sandnessjøen offers shopping, dining and art galleries.

ROUTE 3: FROM HAIRPIN BENDS TO THE OUTERMOST ISLANDS

6 days. Total distance: 160 km (distances are approximate) This bicycle journey through Northern Helgeland features mountain passes with hairpin bends, caves, sandy white beaches and the midnight sun. Day 1: Mo i Rana – Melfjordbotn (40 km) Cycle along Highway E6 from Mo i Rana and take the turnoff toward Melfjordbotn. The ride across the Melfjellet mountains and down to the fjord hamlet, is

Helgeland’s equivalent of Trollstigen (the Troll Ladder) in Romsdal. Along the way, consider a two-hour detour to one of the fascinating caves Grønligrotta, Setergrotta or Marmorslottet. Accommodation: Tent. Day 2: Melfjordbotn – Rødøy (25 km + boat) The express boat down the fjord to Kilboghamn is a fantastic one-hour journey. From the quay in Kilboghamn you cycle 21 km to Tonnes, and take another express boat to Rødøy, passing the Arctic Circle monument on Vikingen island. Accommodation: See page 51. Day 3: Rødøy – Aldersund (21 km) Rise to the challenge! Climb to the peak of Rødøyløva or rent a kayak and explore the beautiful islands and islets before returning to Tonnes in the afternoon. The express boat takes you to Aldersund. Accommodation: See page 48.

Day 1: Nesna Arriving in Nesna (a one-hour drive from Mo i Rana or Mosjøen), enjoy an overnight stay in a cabin, room or holiday apartment at Havblikk Camping. Havblikk has pleasant hosts, good food, and offers activities that make for pleasant days and evenings. Day 2: Nesna – Lovund The express boat departs Nesna at 11:30, arriving Lovund at 13:05. Lovund Rorbuhotell is situated just 700 m from the quay. Enjoy a day at the puffin colony, and a visit to the Coastal Culture Museum. Eager hikers ascending Lovundfjellet (623 m) are rewarded with a magnificent view of the Helgeland coast. Day 3: Lovund – Træna – Nesna/Sandnessjøen After a morning on Lovund, take the 13:05 express boat to Træna, the oldest fishing village in Norway. Attractions include the Petter Dass Chapel at Husøy, where Northern Norway’s most famous poet used to preach in the 18th century, the Lovers’ Path, Kirkehelleren cave on the island of Sanna – and lots of little roads that are ideal for cycling. At 18:55 the express boat leaves for Onøy. Transfer to the Nordland Express, returning you to Nesna at 21:15 or arriving Sandnessjøen at 21:45. Accommodation on Træna: Træna Rorbuferie.
