A distinctive landscape of precipitous mountains and sharp peaks in the Gulf Stream, Lofoten offers the world’s greatest cod fishing. Picturesque, colourful fishing villages and ancient coastal culture meet innovative art and challenging sea and mountain activities, all within a relatively small area. LOFOTEN ISLANDS

VESTERÅLEN ISLANDS Take a tip from the sperm whales, seals and countless sea birds – Vesterålen is truly a green and fertile island group. Enjoy a whale safari, kayaking, cycling, and hiking from the untamed coast to magnificent mountain viewpoints. Historic Nyksund, the Hurtigruten Museum and the blue-painted town of Sortland are all testament to the local culture.

Steep mountains that plunge into the fjord create the scenery for which this area is famous, especially among skiers. From Narvikfjellet Mountain, you can ski downhill almost right down to the fjord and city. The area also boasts a fascinating industrial and wartime history that is told in the many museums.
