FANTASY FOOTBALL

Fantasy Football START & SIT WILLIAM RIEPE

Sports Writer

In the world of professional football, there are numerous players that graze the gridiron with their speed, agility, and skills. When it comes to playing fantasy football however, some may have trouble deciding which player will be most effective in leading their team to victory. Join sports writer William Riepe as he explains who you should start in your lineup, and who should be on the bench sitting. Starting at quarterback, sit Russell Wilson. Wilson took a beating last season due to a lackluster offensive line that failed to protect him game after game. The Seahawks failed to grab a starting lineman to give Wilson some

time with the ball. Start Drew Brees. This week, the Super Bowl XLIV champion and All-Pro play caller takes on an abysmal Tampa Bay secondary which will surely have trouble covering elite receiver Michel Thomas. At running back, sit Jerrick McKinnon. McKinnon struggled with his last few season with the Minnesota Vikings, and will continue to struggle with a lack luster offensive line. McKinnon’s speed is an upside, but his physical limitations and terrible protection are a massive downside. Start David Johnson. This feels like a no-brainer, but if asked, you probably would have trouble naming members of the Redskins pass rush that made a splash in 2017. They will continue to struggle against a top five

running back like Johnson. At wide receiver, sit Tyreek Hill. Hill is a top five receiver on the deep threat, but the Chargers secondary is a top five in itself with an unbeatable pass rush featuring Joey Bosa, who will make quick work of a struggling Kansas City offensive line and rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Start Allen Robinson. As the Packers continue to struggle to find their lockdown corner, a healthy Allen Robinson joins a powerful Bears offense with a now 100 percent starting Mitch Trubisky. I think Robinson will make quick work of the Packers secondary. In the tight end slot, sit Evan Engram. Engram’s athleticism is unrivaled at the position, but a stronger-than-ever Jacksonville defense, including a line-

backing core featuring Myles Jack, will be all over Engram. Start Jack Doyle, who had a fantastic 2017. Andrew Luck leaving the field with an injury had little effect as Doyle quickly became a favored safety valve, and great second option. He will no doubt benefit from having Luck back at the helm. At the flex position, sit Amari Cooper. It’s a safe bet that every receiver or running back that finds themselves against the Rams will struggle. The offseason was fruitful for the Rams, and now they are arguably a top three defense. The Raiders offensive line is aging, and Derek Carr’s time in the pocket will quickly run out. Start Christian McCaffery, who will only benefit from Jonathan Stewart’s departure, and is now a three down

starter for the Panthers. Additionally, Cam Newton has been able to take advantage of McCaffery’s skills through the air, giving him a one-two punch that will surely result in huge fantasy points. And lastly, for defense, sit the Browns. Another no-brainer, but any team playing a healthy Steelers team will struggle. The BellRoethlisberger partnership has proven fruitful over the last few years, and will continue to dominate over the next few seasons. Start the Rams. Los Angeles threw everything but the kitchen sink at their defense this off-season, and it has proven to be the right decision. There are no weak spots in their defense, and they will surely be in the top three defense all season long.
