REE4EU
Project period 2016-2018
Funded by the European Union
Rare-earth elements (REEs) are the seventeen chemical elements lanthanides, Scandium and Yttrium. REEs are considered “key-enablers” of green technologies, as they are used in hybrid electric vehicles, windmills and highly efficient electric engines. Regaining REE from RE-containing waste streams could constitute an important RE secondary source in Europe, increasing our independence from imports. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Elkem performed the up-scaling of the processes.
