Chaperoning Opportunities Quebec 4-H encourages all senior members and other volunteers to chaperone provincial events, including:  Winter Junior Camp (16+ yrs.)  Summer Junior Camp (16+ yrs.)  Leadership Camp (18+ yrs.)  Senior Members’ Weekend (25+ yrs.) Quebec 4-H can always use assistance from senior or proven members at provincial activities. Chaperones for the Junior Camps must be 16+, while chaperones for Intermediate Leadership Camp must be 18+. If you’re interested in having fun taking on a leadership role at events please contact the office! Leaders and parents are also welcome. Quebec 4-H pays the registration fee for chaperones attending the provincial activities listed above. Chaperoning at a provincial or national event provides volunteers with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and gain broad experience. All leaders or volunteers must pass the Quebec 4-H screening process before being recommended to attend a national event.

Chaperoning Local Team/Groups Chaperones are often required for events such as:  Provincial Rally  Judging team events (including Agribition)  Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic Teams or groups are usually selected locally from clubs as are the chaperones. These opportunities are a great way to help youth develop their skills, while playing an important role. Chaperones for all events/groups must be screened by Quebec 4-H. Many events provide more information about chaperone responsibilities, or charge reduced/no fees for chaperones.

Volunteers and Leaders help out during the 2014 Provincial Rally

National Chaperoning Opportunities: Travel with members across the country to assist and participate in national level events, network with other provincial leaders and expand your horizons! National opportunities require volunteer chaperones 25 years or older. Before national events, chaperones receive guidelines for chaperoning, as well as an orientation by conference call. Contact: agliaison@quebec4-h.com for details:  Club to Club exchanges  National Members Forum  Citizenship Congress

Billeting and Being Billeted If you are new to 4-H you may not know that for some of our activities, accommodation is arranged with local 4-H host families who billet one or more 4-H’ers for the duration of the event. This is usually the case for Provincial Rally and Innovative Ag Tour, although alternative options (like camping, hotels) are sometimes also available. All host families must be screened every 3 years, to comply with Quebec 4-H standards. Consider billeting the next time it is offered; it is a great way to meet new 4-H’ers and see a different part of the province, and it’s free!

YAC is made up of 4-H representatives (members or alumni) from each provincial organization and provides a youth perspective to the national working groups. The YAC representative participates in conference calls for YAC as well as 2 or more national committees. The representatives also help plan and chaperone a nationally-run conference.
