in focus when an investment of this kind is made. One ought to be left with a secure feeling that the correct product has been chosen. Many people simply assume that all windows are of good quality and that they really are more or less the same. – Well, the latter is not quite right...

The environment as the core value The Norwegian climate is constantly changing. We have more precipitation, higher temperatures, stronger winds and 4 NORGESVINDUET
more frequent weather extremes than before. These changes are a big challenge for the woodwork. All weather exposed parts of
our products are delivered with environmentally friendly heartwood as standard, already impregnated by nature herself.
Built for eternity The most common material used to build Norwegian stave churches was pine. In these churches the internal structure was always constructed of heartwood. The wood was impregnated by nature and it was very durable – even in very exposed areas. Such wood was therefore also used for the most exposed parts, like poles, sleepers, shingles and exterior walls.
Old tradition
Did you know that our windows are delivered with exterior heartwood as standard?
The window frames found on old houses may be just as healthy even after 200 years. When exposed details of old houses were sawn correctly and built with the pith side out, it was because the carpenters in the old days took the time to sort every single board. This tradition of pride and the love for work well done continues even today for Norgevinduet doors and windows. NORGESVINDUET 5

Heartwood – Cut from the inner core of the pine. The inner core is dense and water repellent and the resins in the heartwood prevent fungus growth and rotting. The best known anti-fungal and protection fluids in pine are tar and resin. Heartwood is naturally impregnated by resin. Untreated heartwood will after time take on a natural rugged grey colour. An untreated wall made of heartwood may last for several hundred years. This is the wood that we utilize in our products. 6 NORGESVINDUET
Nature’s own impregnation This timber log is from a commercial building erected in the 18-hundreds and dismantled in 1990. The timber was then left to the elements on the beach for about 15 years before it was cut. The heartwood is still just as good.

There are two manufacturers of the Norgesvinduet. Both companies have certified quality assurance systems in accordance with ISO 9001:2008, and are also the first window producers in Norway to become environmentally certified according to NS-EN ISO 14001:2004.

Norgesvinduet Bjørlo AS was established in 1918. The founders were brothers, Knut and Hans Bjørlo who began with the production of skis and sledges. In 1959 the company changed over to producing the Husmorvinduet under license, and the factory started developing and producing Norgesvinduet in 1991.

Norgesvinduet Svenningdal AS was established in 1918. The founder was Johan Lund Arntsberg who started with the production of furniture, doors and windows. In 1971 the company began to manufacture the Husmorvinduet under license and has since 1991 developed and produced Norgesvinduet.

Aluminium coating The aluminium coating sits about 7-10mm on the outside of the actual wood and provides protection from rain and sunlight at the same time retaining the good thermal properties of the wood. The woodwork behind the coating is given one coat of finishing treatment. 10 NORGESVINDUET

Spend time on yourself The window of tomorrow is made of wood with an exterior aluminium coating, this ensures ventilation between the wood and aluminium. It is virtually maintenance free; indoors it retains

orgesvinduet with energy saving glass improves the indoor air quality by reducing cold rush (air which has been cooled down on contact with a cold surface flows downward, creating draught) and cold radiation. This reduces the need for heating and thereby contributes to a better environment and lower energy prices for the home owner. Surface finishing All products are delivered from the factory with a finished surface. The wear from sun and rain will eventually be noticeable and a refinishing should be done. The lower part of the window is the most susceptible. In exposed locations the products will need more frequent finishing treatment than those in less exposed areas. Protection against flames and fumes. We supply three different types of fire resistant glass which comply with the flammability classes:
E30
This designation means that these parts of the building are fire resistant and fume limiting. This function should be maintained for 30 minutes at a standard fire load.
EI 30
This designation means that structures shall be smoke and gas tight and not exceed a prescribed temperature on the unexposed side for 30 minutes.
EI 60
This designation means that structures shall be smoke and gas tight and not exceed a prescribed temperature on the unexposed side for 60 minutes.

Safety glass Safety glass protects against personal injury and can prevent burglary.
BURGLAR-PROOF
Burglar-proofed glass has a laminated pane making it impossible to pick it apart in case of breakage.
TEMPERED/LAMINATED GLASS
Either tempered or laminated glass should be used in order to prevent injuries from falls against a pane. Tempered glass becomes pulverized and none of the glass bits have sharp edges. Laminated glass does not fall apart and no sharp edges are left loose. Laminated glass is used for windscreens in cars and tempered glass for other windows. NORGESVINDUET 23
HGU Horizontal sliding hinge; outward hung This is our best-selling window type. The window is opened by means of a handle on the lower edge and can be turned 180 degrees for cleaning. Use of the window is easy in any position, which gives perfect balance to the window – even when the frame is turned around 180˚.

BDI Patio door; inward opening Both side and bottom hinges for inwards opening. Many people prefer this extra function with airing at the top. The handle points downwards when locked and is turned 90 degrees upwards for opening, so that it points directly to the side, in other words, opposite to the standard action of a handle on an interior or exterior door. This door does not have the same variations of a locking handle, blind signs and laser cylinders as the BDU, and is available only with a handle on the inside. The door should not be mounted on walls with tough weather exposure.

BDU Patio door; outward opening The door opens by turning the door handle upwards. There are three locking positions on the lock side. The door brake at the top of the door blade is activated by turning the handle downwards. The door blade can thus be kept at any desired opening position, from a small airing position to the maximum opening of 90 degrees. The door brake is also an opening limiter which prevents the door from slamming onto the wall behind it. The door has traditional lifting hinges.

Glazing bars Glazing bars add a new dimension to the house. It takes on a softer expression and an exciting shadow play. EXTERNAL GLAZING BARS

The glazing bars can be removed to ease the cleaning process. The bars without frames have clips mounted on either end and are fastened to the window’s glass moldings. There are few restrictions to the appearance of windows or doors with glazing bars. External glazing bars are available in a thicknesses of either 25 or 50mm. We can also supply «embedded» glazing bars.

On fixed windows, the purpose of glazing bars may be increased strength of the construction in terms of wind load. True divided muntins are available in thicknesses of 65mm, 72mm or 90mm. All types of insulating glass can be used for true divided muntins. There are few restrictions to the appearance of a window or door with true divided muntins.

The windows are an important part of the facade of a house, and give it charisma and character. With Norgesvinduet’s choice of windows and frames, the possibilities are almost endless.
Which window should I choose? GLASS
The U-value indicates the heat loss of the window. The lower the number, the less heat that is lost. A new requirement on August 1, 2009, was implemented with a U-value of 1.2 for new houses, major renovations and big holiday homes. In addition, Enova recommend a change to windows with a U-value of 1.0 or better in order to save energy, as much as 40% of a building’s heat loss occurs through the windows. Enova recommends triple glazed lowenergy windows with a U-value of 1.0 or less. The most commonly used glass is energy saving glass with argon gas. Windows are available with many different types of glass, including solar heat reducing glass, which stop 98% of UV rays, therefor permitting a “half” of the sun’s heat. Sound proof windows mute noise, also from traffic. Other alternatives include fire resistant and safety glass. Consider your needs and choose your window glazing based on that. As an example, if you choose a window with self-cleaning glass, you will get a product where the UV rays break down the dirt on the glass. The dirt is washed off when it rains or with a good spray from the garden hose.
HIGH QUALITY
Norgesvinduet meet the most stringent requirements. We can supply windows with such a low U-value that exterior condensation forms on the outside, in particular on a cold night with high humidity. This usually applies to windows with U-values of 1.2 and below. There is nothing wrong with the glass or the window itself but is the evidence of good insulation.
MAINTENANCE-FREE WINDOWS
Windows made of heartwood are very durable but you should choose aluminium coated heartwood if you want maintenance-free windows. Aluminium coated windows will give you robust and safe windows which retain their quality year after year. All that is required in the way of maintenance is a drop of oil to the fittings once a year.
COLOURS
Rounded profiles of sash and frame give better paint adhesion. By letting us do the painting you will get a better result as the windows are painted before they are assembled. The products are available with different colours inside and out.
GLAZING BARS
Would you prefer to have a window with glazing bars? You can choose between true divided muntins, glued or loose bars.
LINERS
Liners are supplied according to our customer’s measurement specifications. MDF liners are supplied laminated to below 260mm. Liners in solid wood with a width of 100mm are always produced of laminated materials, possibly in a jointed construction. The liners have end preparations for corner joints.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTION
Norgesvinduet is recommended by Enova. Enova was established to promote environmentally friendly restructuring and energy consumption and production in Norway. An Enova recommendation assumes that the product is among the most energy efficient in its category, and that it is available on the market. Suppliers must be approved by the Norwegian door and window control in order to be a member of ENOVA. The exposed surfaces of Norgesvinduet consist of heartwood with the superior waterproofing from nature itself.
