SpaceFest Discover

NASA: From Our Town to Outer Space

Has Landed! Slover Library is proud to host Discover NASA: From Our Town to Outer Space this fall. This 800 square foot traveling exhibit features stunning imagery, hands-on activities, and multimedia experiences that make space science fun for all ages. The Discover NASA exhibit starts in the Forum of Slover Library and continues with additional elements located on the 2nd floor Children’s Department and on the 5th floor Teen Department. (All Ages)

Write In (National Novel Writing Month)

Starship Horizons

10 AM – 5 PM, RM 105 Come “Write In!” for National Novel Writing Month. Bring your paper, pencils, laptops, whatever you need and we will provide ideas, free wi-fi and a warm, quiet place to write. (Tweens, Teens & Adults)

2nd Floor: Play Space 10 AM – 4:30 PM, RM 295 “Play Space” in our space-themed play room. (School Age)

Storytime 10 AM, 12 PM & 2 PM 2nd Floor Commons Space and NASA-themed Storytimes. (Preschool)

Midnight Society: Alien Abduction 1 – 2 PM, RM 290 Get ready for a close encounter of the fourth kind! Join us for stories, snacks and scares with an alien abduction theme. (Tweens)

10 AM – 4:30 PM, 3rd Floor Computer Lab Grab your friends and family and find out what it’s like to be a Bridge Officer in this fun, interactive multi-crew starship simulator! (All Ages)

Face Painting & Temporary Tattoos 10 AM – 4:30 PM 3rd Floor Reading Room Pick your own design! (All Ages)

Chill Zone 10 AM – 4:30 PM 3rd Floor Reading Room Grab light refreshments and a seat for a few minutes. (All Ages)

3D Printers in Space Demo 12:30 – 1:30 PM, Slover Design Studio Learn about NASA’s 3D printer on the International Space Station and see a demo of 3D printers closer to home at the Slover Library. (Teens & Adults)

NASA Raw Footage Demo 2 – 3 PM, Slover Design Studio See examples of how NASA creates stunning full-color images from the Hubble Space Telescope. (Teens & Adults)

Discover NASA Ground Control (Forum) 10 AM - 5 PM Stop by “Ground Control” as you enter the building for an overview of the Discover NASA exhibit and our programming. (All Ages)


Join us as we welcome Discover NASA: From Our Town to Outer Space to Slover Library in this library-wide kick-off celebration. (All Ages) 4th Floor: SpaceFest Art Show 10 AM – 5 PM 4th Floor Reading Area Rocket up to the 4th floor for science and science-fiction themed art work by local artists. (All Ages)

5th Floor: Game Lounge Freeplay 10 AM – 4:30 PM, Gaming Lounge Play a variety of games that are appropriate for all ages on one of our consoles. The Teen Gaming Lounge at Slover Library features Xbox One, Wii U, and PlayStation 4. (All Ages)

Moon Phases Observation 10 AM – 4:30 PM, RM 570 Meet the many faces of the moon in this interactive moon phases demonstration.*Sponsored by 4-H Cooperative Extension (All Ages)

Kerbal Space Program

10 AM – 4:30 PM 5th Floor Try your hand at this upcoming Nintendo Wii U game by local game developers Jeremy Alessi and Henry Meredith of Midnight Status. (All Ages)

2 – 5 PM, 5th Floor Lab Build spacecraft, fly them, and try to help the Kerbals to fulfill their ultimate mission of conquering space. (Tweens & Teens)

Universe Sandbox

6th Floor:

10 AM – 1:30 PM 5th Floor Computer Lab Create, destroy, and interact on a scale you’ve never before imagined in this universe simulation game. (Tweens & Teens)
