NORFIELD CELEBRATES 50 YEARS

Drills.........................................................................................56 Dust Collection.......................................................... 94-97

It is with great pride that we celebrate 50 years of history for Norfield.

Hinges..................................................................................110

Norfield began in 1959, originally, to make prehung doors for the residential housing market in northern California. The founders, Robert Norlie, a residential building contractor and Richard Sheffield, a cabinet maker, saw an opportunity to build prehung doors. They built their own machines and fixtures out of wood and in some cases old washing machine parts. They had an early focus on what we call Lean Manufacturing today and were constantly revising their machines and processes to reduce production costs. In the early 60’s a local, lumberyard customer expressed interest in producing their own prehung doors and asked Norfield to build them some machinery. This led to the Magnum Door Machine and the 250 Strike Jamb Router which they patented. Norfield grew rapidly from that start adding other products used in the production of prehung doors. The two founding woodworkers made the transition from working with wood to working with metal.

Jigsaws......................................................................................68

We are also celebrating the 25th anniversary of our Tools and Supplies Department. This Buyer’s Guide represents the development of what was our parts department into a dynamic business for providing cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, replacement parts for machines and everything that is used in support of the production of prehung doors. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers over the last 50 years that have helped Norfield become successful.
