Sahlströmsgården – for all senses Sahlströmsgården is a meeting place out of the ordinary. Here the visitor will get a complete experience full of surprises. Sahlströmsgården is situated just north of Torsby. Sahlströmsgården was a cultural oasis even in the days of the Sahlström family in the last century. Although Per Sahlström – gentleman of the farm and a very well-to-do farmer and known as “Fryksdalskungen”, the King of Fryksdal – wanted otherwise, his home became highly appreciated meeting point for art and recreation.

Of his ten children, three went on to become artists. Anna became a painter, Bror became a sculptor and woodcarver, and Ida – whom Father saw as “the best boy on the farm” – preferred to weave and design textiles and furniture. Nowadays you can see a permanent exhibition there of the works of the children and their friends, and regular exhibitions of works by contemporary artists are arranged there as well. In the hotel, both old and new are united. All rooms have wooden floors, tiled bathrooms, tv, wireless internet access and a beautiful view over the lake Sirsjön. RACKSTADMUSEET

A welcoming place for unforgettable memories. The famous Swedish sculptor Christian Eriksson was born at Haget in Arvika, the place where Rackstad Museum today is situated. Young artists from his fold of friends – artists who later on was named as the group of Rackstad Colony – moved after him to Arvika. They all shaped arts with romantic feelings of longing, friendship and nature, expressions who was common in the decades around 1900. Christian built a studio in rural romantic style which today invite visitors in its original look. The Rackstad Museum shows exhibitions with arts and crafts in the heritage of Rackstad Colony, but also interesting contemporary arts, in modern and beautiful galleries. The museum, with exhibitions, a wonderful garden, guided tours, music events and conserts, shop and restaurant/cafe makes the Rackstad Museum to a welcoming place for experiences, unfogettable memories and meetings.

The boeier Christine af Bro has become a reminder of the times when Kristinehamn was Lake Vänern’s most important seaport town. It was here that timber and iron ore were once shipped out into the world. The boeier was launched on 4th May 2002 after 8 years of work in the dock. This historical vessel, built in the traditional Dutch way, is a great experience for people of all ages who are interested in boats. Culture and history across two countries Relax and enjoy life. Exciting culture, great experiences in nature and interesting trips are combined with accommodation in beautiful surroundings and delicious food. Life can be very good in Hedmark and Värmland. DAY 1 eidsvoll 1814. Although the Eidsvoll Building is currently closed for extensive renovation leading up to the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution in 2014, you can still experience the history of 1814 here. A new, contemporary Hall of State has been opened in Wergelands hus, and here the history of 1814 is communicated through film and storytelling. This new way of displaying the history has elicited a positive response, and it makes the it both easier to remember and more alive. The short film „Christian Frederik – king of Norway“ is part of the exhibition „The Six Weeks“. It is a beautiful portrait of a sensitive man. You can also check out the stunning displays in and around Wergelands Hus, covering themes such as freedom of speech, 17th May, milestones in the history of democracy, and Henrik Wergeland. Cake of the day + coffee + 15 minutes of the history of 1814 told at the Milepelen Inn in Sand. Milepelen Inn is a treasure, situated where the Sandsåa river runs out into the Storsjøen lake in Nord-Odal. Here we have coffee before continuing to Løten

LØTEN NÆRSTASJON & LANDHANDLERI Løten Nærstasjon & Landhandleri sells food from local farms as well as design products, and the cozy, 150-year-old station building in the centre of Løten also contains a café and bakery. The coffee is boiled in a pan and the train tickets are sold over the counter – just like in the good old days.

RICA ELGSTUA HOTELL ELVERUM - New hotel, opening 1st June 2013. 110 rooms designed with Norwegian nature in mind. Welcome to Elgstua! If you need an exciting stop on the way, we offer a unique food experience with traditional food. Accommodation and dinner.

DAY 2 Breakfast NORSK SKOGMUSEUM Norsk Skogmuseum is located in Elverum, a small city by the Glomma river, in the middle of one of Norway‘s most important forest areas. The museum showcases forest and wilderness enterprises such as hunting, fishing, forestry and woodwork in a historical context. The work is communicated though exhibitions, publications, and various forms of teaching. In addition, the museum works with collections, documentation and research. More than 110,000 people visit the museum every year, making it one of the most popular museums in Norway.

GLOMDALSMUSEET Glomdalsmuseet is a museum for cultural history in Østerdalen and Solør. The open air museum displays 92 antique buildings. At the core of the enterprise is the wish to display building traditions and local arts, the traditional farmer‘s society, minority cultures in the past and the present, medical history, and military history in Hedmark.

ELVERUM ART GALLERY is a private gallery, opened in November 2005. The gallery is located in the centre of Elverum and is worth visiting for those interested in art. SAHLSTRÖMSGÅRDEN in TORSBY Sahlströmgården is named after farmer Per Sahlström, nicknamed „the king of the Fryks Valley“. To his great chagrin, three of his ten children became artists. Anna became a painter, Bror a sculptor, and Ida – who her father thought to be „the farm‘s best boy“ – would rather weave and design textiles and furniture. Sahlströmgården was already a cultural centre in the Sahlström siblings‘ lifetime. Although the master of the farm, farmer Per Sahlström, wanted it differently, his home became a much appreciated centre to gatherings dedicated to art and recreation. Many members of the cultural elite visited the farm by the bank of the Sirsjön lake, where Sahlström‘s children welcomed them with open arms and offered both food and lodging. Today, more than a hundred years later, Sahlströmgården is still an unusual gathering place. It offers its visitors a complete experience. The old farmhouse and the treasure cove of art within, an inheritance from the Sahlström children and their friends, are on permanent display. In addition, there are rotating exhibitions by contemporary artists. The farm‘s own artists live on in a mix with the artists of today.ontemporary artists. The farm‘s own artists are mixed with today‘s and live on in that way. Accommodation and a great dinner.

DAY 3 Breakfast and SHOPPING in SUNNE MÅRBACKA MINNESGÅRD. This is the home of author and honorary doctorate Selma Lagerlöf, who in 1909 was the first woman to be awarded the Nobel price in literature. The award was primarily for the novels The Saga of Gösta Berling, The Tale of a Manor and Other Sketches, Jerusalem, and Herr Arne‘s Hoard. In her will, Selma Lagerlöf specified that Mårbacka should be kept as a heritage farm and be displayed to the public as it was at the time of her death. The Lagerlöf family lost Mårbacka when Selma‘s father died, but thanks to her literary success, in 1907 Selma was able to buy the farm back. She first used it as a summer place. From 1921 to 1923, the house was rebuilt in its current incarnation, as drawn by renowned architect Isac Gustaf Clason. An exciting guided tour where you will learn more about an interesting person who influenced her society in many ways awaits you. Selma Lagerlöf‘s Garden. Early in 1909 Selma wrote to Ruth Brandberg, a newly educated gardener, that she wished to found a plant nursery, as the area did not have one. Ruth Brandberg was hired and worked on the garden for three years. Today, the garden has been restored and is a great sight. The Mårbacka café offers cakes baked after recipes from Selma Lagerlöf‘s time. Currant „gomme“ is one of the favourites consisting of ingredients from the garden. In the small shop there is a selection of beautiful and unique memorabilia to take home. ROTTNEROS PARK is one of the highlights of the trip. This manorhouse was the model for Ekeby in The Saga of Gösta Berling, and it has an incredible history of its own. It started with the decision of the visionary Svante Pählsson, who lived at the manor in the 1950s, to shape it into a Rottneros which would match the Ekeby of the story. Pählsson also made sure that Selma Lagerlöf‘s Nobel prize medal was bought back and stayed in Sunne when Selma Lagerlöf donated it to a collection to help war victims in Finland.

Rottneros has a unique collection of sculpture, containing work by Vigeland and others, and also boasts an exciting combination of park rooms, beautiful nature parks and innovative garden design. It is a place of tales and stories, dreams and visions that are longing to be told. länsmansgården ulfsby herrgård in sunne Here you will be met by charming country surroundings that welcome you with warmth and relaxation. Länsmandsgården has been hosting guests for almost a hundred years and it is known for its fine kitchen, influenced by Värmland tradition. The manor is the inspiration for Länsmandsgården in Selma Lagerlöf‘s novel The Saga of Gösta Berling, and is there inhabited by County Governor Scharling, a festive gentleman who enjoys music, dance, and festivities. The model for Scharling was County Governor Anders Wahlstrand, who was living at Länsmandsgården at the time. A rest in the comfortable rooms awaits before a two course dinner is served in the manor‘s beautiful dining hall later in the evening. For those who want activities, there are boule lanes and walking paths, and on warm days a refreshing bath from the pier may be tempting. After dinner coffee will be served in the beautiful parlors. Accommodation with a historical feel.
