9. “When I see him open his mouth again, I feel exasperated, because I want there to be equal opportunity for everyone to talk.” 10. “When she speaks before I’m finished, I feel hurt, because I am wanting more support for the effort I am making to lead the group.” 11. “When I don’t see anyone greeting the new people, I feel uneasy because I value a welcoming and inclusive space.” 12. “When I see him arrive late for the third time during opening circle, I feel irritated because I would like to see more consideration of how it affects the flow of what we are doing.” 13. “When I listen to what you are saying, I feel confused and exhausted because I am wanting there to be connection and understanding between us on a heart level.” 14. “When I hear the dozens of compliments, praise and positive judgments over the course of the evening, I feel annoyed because I yearn for authentic connection.” 15. “When I hear so many evaluations in our conversation, I feel concerned because I want us to spend our time purposefully, practicing NVC, and relating to each other with honesty and empathy.” 16. “When I see the same three people having done their homework, I feel disgusted because I want equal participation and sharing of the work.”

Review these sample responses, noticing how they are similar to or different from your own. Do you recognize cases where the feelings and needs words used in these samples more closely match those in the book than the ones you chose? What do you notice about these differences? When you notice these differences write down how you feel and what you may need in relation to having different answers than those given here.
