Hand Drafting

In our first unit of the semester, we focused on hand drafting architectural sheets. as a class, we went to the ravenhill mansion and surveyed the foyer to get the measurements needed to draft. we started with the floor plan, then the reflected ceiling plan, an elevation, and a perspective. This unit was important in knowing the details of architectural drafting and construction drawings, which layed the foundation for later units.

Photoshop

Photoshop was the first adobe computer program we learned once we finished our hand drafting unit. We continued the theme of the ravenhill mansion foyer and created a collage using different photoshop elements, online pictures, personal pictures, and our hand drafted drawings. The collage helped us become more familiar with photoshop and how it can be useful to us not only in making collages, but in editing pictures in general.

Illustrator

10

Adobe illustrator was the second program we learned, which we used to create our personal logo to go along with the name of our own firm. for mine, i wanted to continue the theme of my hawaiian heritage by using symbols that i identify strongly with. The repeating symbol in the back is the marquesan cross, which is the symbol of life. i also used maile leaves to surround the firm name because my mom and grandmother's names are both maile. I used illustrator to draw the symbols, apply a gradient, and form it into a circle.

AutoCAD

as we learned the program autocad, we applied the skills we learned during our hand drafting unit to now draft on the computer. We learned the different commands and shortcuts, and started off with simple floorplans. after more practice, we were assigned a new room on campus, surveyed it, and drafted it into autocad.

InDesign

the last program we learned is adobe indesign, which is the program we used to create these portfolios. we imported all of our work from the semester and created a design layout to showcase all of our projects and talk about them. for my design layout, i chose to use watercolor brushes in photoshop because it was a technique i really enjoyed learning, and i chose blue and green to use because those were the 2 primary colors in my logo, symbolizing the sky and the earth.

17

Photoshop Rendering

After we drafted in autocad, we took those drawings and rendered them in photoshop. We learned how to import pictures with specific materials, and also how to render using brushes, focusing on watercolor brushes. we rendered our reflected ceiling plans, furniture and finish plans, and interior elevations.
