Case Study: Implementing an EMS for Team Engineers’ SDHL Modem Deployment Team Engineers is an ISO 9001:2008 Company established by a Team of Professional Engineers in early 90’s with its Registered Corporate Office and Factory based at Hyderabad and operations spread across all metropolitans cities in India. Team Engineers focuses on Voice / Data communication products, such as Digital Cross Connect switches, Statistical Multiplexers, 2 Mbps & 64K bps Leased Line Modems & Converters, Dialup/Leased Modems, Multi-drop Modems for SCADA applications, Line Drivers (2 & 4 Pairs), etc. Team Engineers are registered with National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Directorate General of Supplies & Disposals (DGS&D), Eastern Command-Kolkata, Southern Command-Pune, Navy, Indian Railways and also with major ordnance factories all over India.

The NOCVue Solution: NOCVue , a scalable, carrier grade EMS/NMS platform from Velankani provided a solution for Team Engineers, which consists of the following functions: 1. Discovery: Shallow & Deep discovery of the SHDSL Modem, discovering of all the interfaces supported, as indicated in the screen shot below.

Business Challenge: With only SNMP, CLI & Web User Interfaces supported for their TeamLink 3002 product line, Team Engineers was in need of a scalable EMS platform with rich FCAPS capabilities to manage 20,000 to 30,000 SHDSL Modems.

2. Fault Management: In addition to the standard faults, Team EMS also supported all Link Up/down alarms like E1, V35, DSL etc. Correlation and synchronization of alarms was also supported based on their proprietary SHDSL MIBs.

Team Engineers selected Velankani’s NOCVue™ platform for the development of their Team EMS offering that integrates the TeamLink 3002 product line and also integrates into the end customer network very easily. SHDSL modems are specifically targeted for service providers and/or system integrator markets. The following factors played a key role in their selection of an EMS NMS platform: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

3. Performance Data Collection: NOCVue was easily configured to collect a wide variety of Performance Management data from the entire SHDSL network. Data collected can be viewed using User defined reports/graphs. 4. Security Management: A secure framework with built-in authentication & authorization was supported. User group-based roles and privileges were supported by default as well. All transactions and user activities are logged and are accessible to the administrator using the Audit Log module.

5. Configuration Management: Team EMS supported a wide variety of configurations for the SHDSL The Key Benefits: Modems including Line Speeds, Diagnostics including loopback configurations and SNMP Proto- The following are the key benefits that the NOCVue col was used to apply the configuration changes on platform brought forth in the integration of TeamLink to the Modems, as shown below. 3002 into NOCVue to develop the Team EMS offering: 1. Reduced Time-to-Market: The NOCVue platform accelerated time to market and reduced development costs by incorporating many carrier grade FCAPS capabilities Out-of-the box. The initial PoC (Proof of Concept) of the Team EMS for a system integrator took just 15 calendar days with just 1 (One) Engineer doing the customization and testing of the functionalities.

6. Telnet Cut-Through: Team EMS allows a privileged user to telnet into any of the Managed SHDSL Modems from the Web-based User Interface, as shown below.

2. Ease of Customization: The FCAPS components including the User Interface in NOCVue are easily customizable. Team EMS specific features like alarm correlation, synchronization, configuration, data collection etc. were added in no time and were ready for system testing & deployment. 3. Scalability: The NOCVue architecture supports a scalable, N-Tiered architecture which enables OEMs to manage large scale deployments with much ease. Team EMS’s requirement of managing 20,000 to 30,000 SHDSL modems was easily achievable using NOCVue’s scalable platform. 4. User Friendly GUI: NOCVue supports the state-of-theart graphical user interface developed using Web 2.0 Technologies. The User interface is intuitive, enabling a novice user to start using the tool easily and effectively with minimal or no training. 5. Cost Effectiveness: The competitive pricing of the NOCVue platform combined with the featureintensive capabilities proved to be cost effective to Team Engineers.

7. Reset Modem: Team EMS also provides an option For the privileged users to perform a soft-reset of the Modems on an as needed basis. © NOCVue 2012

6. Technical Know-how: Velankani has vast subject matter expertise in the EMS NMS & Telecom domain. It has delivered close to 25+ EMS NMS solutions to OEMs across the globe. The solutions delivered are

Case Study: Implementing an EMS for Team Engineers’ SDHL Modem Deployment widely in use at major Tier 1 carriers all over the world. This knowledge of Velankani came in handy while customizing NOCVue to develop Team EMS for their SHDSL product lines. 7. SNMP Standards Compliant: Customers for Team Engineers are mostly large Service Providers or System Integrators all over India, they prefer to have a standard protocol instead of implementing a new protocol with each implementation. NOCVue satisfies this requirement as it is compliant with SNMP standards defined in the RFCs.
