In honor of March Madness, we did a Top Boyband Songs of All-Time bracket in our Facebook community. New Kids on the Block were victorious over NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. The two finalists came down to “Step By Step” and “The Right Stuff.” “Step By Step” was declared the winner.

Patron of the Month
NK Airplay Radio would like to take the time to introduce and congratulate Ashley Clerk as our patron of the month. Ashley has been a loyal listener of the station for a long time. She started listening after the interview with Donnie on the Virtual Cruise. She used to listen to the station when she worked night patrol all the time. Now that she works as a school resource officer, she doesn’t get to listen to the station as much as she used to. However, she will listen for a few hours here and there as well as the weekends.
Ashley became a patron because she loves how other fans share her love for the 5 brothers’ music, and hearing it makes her happy. Because of this, support for NK Airplay was an easy choice. When asked who her favorite DJ was, she said, “JBlock is my favorite. He is easy to listen to with his commentary and seems to always have music for my mood.”

Street Team Member of the Month Ruth has been a loyal listener of the station ever since she found it mentioned on Twitter. She loves that the station is not out to make money but to truly be there for the fans. When asked why she wanted to be a part of the NK Airplay Street Team, Ruth said she wanted to help spread the word about the station she loves tuning into. She’s been a member for at least a year.

Backstreet Boys News: Howie Dorough participated in the FOX reality competition show called The Real Dirty Dancing where he competed to be “The Real Dirty Dancing Champion”. Nick Carter released a new song called “Easy” on February 11, 2022. It’s a pop/country crossover love song with country artist Jimmie Allen. AJ McLean became the official host and filmed The Fashion Hero: Season 2. The setting is in South Africa.

New Kids on the Block News: The Knight brothers from NKOTB have been up to a few things these last few months. In a recent tweet back in February, Jon tweeted that he & Jordan took part in HGTV’s hit show Rock The Block. Jon is also currently working on season 2 of Farmhouse Fixer.
NSYNC News: Chris Kirkpatrick was a contestant of the hit CBS show, Celebrity Big Brother. He was eliminated from the house on the February 11th episode.
New Edition News: New Edition is on their 2022 “Culture Tour” with Charlie Wilson & Jodeci. It will run from February 16th through April10th. 7
Boyband Happenings DJ Konfetti’s Virtual Meet & Greet with AJ McLean Story On Thursday February 3rd, I had the chance of a lifetime. I had my first meet & greet with one of my favorite boybanders, AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys. I was on Twitter scrolling through my feed and then I saw AJ’s tweet about him hosting a Valentine’s Day Virtual Meet & Greet on the Looped Live phone app. I took the chance and signed up for a ticket. Once I got the email confirming it, I totally fangirled out. I was so excited that I told all my friends about it. The scheduled call was a one-on-one 2-minute chat with AJ. A selfie and a video copy of our chat was also included. When the day finally came, I was super excited! I spent the day counting down the hours and minutes. I even let my friends know I was counting down.

When AJ called, I answered straight away. AJ was so nice and awesome to talk to. I then asked him if he would mind doing a station ID for NK Airplay. He said, “Sure why not?” Hearing AJ say that made me smile, and I thanked him for our moment together. After the call ended, I was still in fangirl mode. I sat there thinking to myself, “Omg, I just spoke with AJ McLean!” It was definitely one of the best things I ever did. The selfie I got with AJ during our call is now my lock screen wallpaper, and it will be that for a while. AJ’s station ID is now on the NK Airplay Radio loop. This is my story of my first ever boyband meet and greet with one of my favorite boyband members. Even though it was virtual, I don’t mind. I’m just thankful I had the chance.

fangir fin Growing up a fan of NKOTB, many of us had all sorts of merchandise from bed sheets, curtains, dolls, shirts, and more. Recently in our “Fangirl Finds’’ column through our Facebook Community group, we asked our listeners to share stories or memories of the NKOTB trading cards. In the late 80s, these trading cards brought “The Right Stuff” to the hobby of collecting these trading cards by one of the biggest teen heartthrob bands of that era. There was always a set of stickers included, and on the back of the sticker cards were pieces of a large photo puzzle. Do you remember buying your first pack and where you got them from? I still have both full sets of the trading cards. I used to buy mine from my neighborhood corner store. I’d ride my bike there to get some snacks and some packs of cards. I’d trade some with friends. Depending on which cards we had to help each other finish the set. I didn’t buy the second set until years later when I bought loads of NKOTB merch from a woman who would sell the merch at fairs. On March 4th, Raven sat down with Crystal from Florida who saw The Right Stuff video on MTV in 1988. She was a Danny girl from the start. Her first concert was the 1991 Hangin’ Tough Tour, and she remembers losing her voice from screaming so much. She also talked about her experiences as an adult going to concerts for the VIP/Barstool experience. On March 11th, Raven sat down with Tiffany from Georgia, who fell in love with NKOTB after being introduced by her elementary school friends. She also shared how they would trade posters with one another. She talked about her preshow ritual before attending the Fenway concert in Boston in 2020, as well as her experience of going to Wahlburgers. A Day in the Life of a Blockhead, hosted by Raven, aka That Wahlburgers Chick, airs on NK Airplay Radio Thursdays at 2 pm ET. Each week she sits down with fans of NKOTB as they re-live their past, including the nostalgia of when they first became fans.
In episode 2, we caught up with JBLOCK. He talked to us about The Wanted. Jason has converted a lot of us here at the station to The Wanted fans. This was such a fun episode! You can catch JBLOCK every Saturday night from 9 - 11 pm ET on NK Airplay Radio. In episode 3, DJ Spicy turned up the heat with her stories about Menudo. This is the group that launched the career of Ricky Martin, among others. We learned so much about Menudo and Latin music in this episode. You can catch DJ Spicy “spicing up” your Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am - 1 pm ET on NK Airplay Radio Episode 4 found DJ Lady J taking it all the way back to the days of New Edition. New Edition was the original boyband that paved the way for groups like New Kids on the Block, NSYNC, and Backstreet Boys. It was so cool to be able to share our stories from back in the day. For episode 5, we caught up with Samantha of BoyBand Fanatics. She talked to us about New Kids on the Block, NSYNC, and Backstreet Boys. We played an amazing round of “Would You Rather”. Boyband Nation episode recap by : DJ Konfetti Boyband Nation airs every other week at 2pm EST only on NK Airplay Radio For Boyband Nation ep.1 on 2/15/22, it was a Valentine’s Day theme since the show aired the day after. The following songs were featured in the show: “A Million Love Songs” from Take That, “Love Me For A Reason” from Boyzone, “Popcorn Love” from New Edition, “Valentine’s Girl” from Mindless Behavior & “Heart Vacancy” from The Wanted. Boyband Nation ep. 2 on 3/1/22 was a look into “DJ’s Konfetti’s Boyband Favorite’s Spotify Playlist.” Some of her favorite boyband songs came from groups such as LMNT, Dreamstreet, 4Count & Midnight Red just to name a few. Boyband Nation ep. 3 on 3/8/22 was called “The Masked Boybander.” It aired the day before The Masked Singer returned to T.V. This show will feature songs that represent the boybander from their own groups, solo work, & other songs that were a part of the show. There was a guessing game that we posted on the socials, where we asked our listeners to match the masks to the boybanders from all past seasons. I Remember When Do you ever sit back and remember the good old days? For example, the toys we played with, or the cartoons we grew up watching faithfully? Do you remember the fads and fashions we went through? Well, NK Airplay Radio has the show for you! It is called I Remember When, hosted by Jaime aka Lady J, and Lyssa aka DJ Spicy, which airs every Wednesday at 2 pm ET. Join these two lovely DJs as they get together each week with various special guests to discuss all things nostalgic. They talk about retro fashion, fads, games and toys, as well as the TV, music, and movies we all grew up with. Basically, it is a show for anything nostalgic. Many of us had a special love for these memories, and the love still remains alive to this day. In our very first episode, which aired on February 2nd, we discussed The Golden Girls. The show honored of Betty White, who passed away a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Tiffany Ford, a big fan of the show, was a special guest contributor.

On February 9th, our memories surfaced again when Full House was the topic. The DJs discussed the recent death of Bob Saget. On February 16th, was all about the Care Bears. Who remembers those colorful bears with different meanings? The special guest contributor for this show was Karen Alexander, aka nkotvkarebear. A few guests during this show showed off their current Care Bears collection. On February 23rd, DJs discussed the Trapper Keeper and Lisa Frank products. Do you remember carrying around a Trapper Keeper? What about those designs on the front? How about Lisa Frank? Do you remember her bright colors and designs? We did, and it was so much 13
Positive Selfishness
Relax, I know what you are thinking. How can selfishness possibly be considered positive? Well, let’s talk about it, shall we?
When we think of the word selfish or the act of selfishness in general, our brains automatically default to the lack of consideration towards a person or situation. So now, I’m sure you are wondering, what could positive selfishness mean? Positive selfishness is knowing how to focus on yourself to preserve your health on a holistic level. Growing up, we were always told by our parents not to be selfish. Keeping that in mind, we became overly mindful about not coming across as being selfish. As a result, setting boundaries, limitations, or saying “no” to something becomes challenging. Ensuring that everyone else’s need is being met while neglecting our own becomes more common than we want to admit. 14
The reality is that positive selfishness is really a part of self-love. It not only benefits your own personal growth, but it also strengthens the relationships of those around you. You can’t be your best or give your best if you’re not at your best. This means we must be responsible for making sure our personal, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are being met. By practicing this, you will find yourself becoming happier, stronger, and more confident. You will also feel healthier and more grounded. Again, practicing positive selfishness not only benefits you, but the relationships of those around you. I know this can be difficult. It takes time. But I believe in you.
