San Remo features exquisite Italian cuisine, right in the heart of Red Bank

Y

ou don’t need to travel far for excellent Italian cuisine and modern seafood delicacies lovingly cooked and artfully served in a cozy yet sophisticated setting. Chef and owner Giovanni Bodor came to America from Italy in 1992 and opened his first San Remo restaurant in Shrewsbury, eventually moving to his current Red Bank location in 2014. Giovanni’s attention to detail and his ability to turn classic Italian dishes into modern masterpieces is what keeps people coming back. His menu features a wide range of options from salads, antipasto, and soups to homemade pastas, traditional favorites, and local seafood entrees. The BYOB policy encourages diners to enjoy their favorite wines, and San Remo’s mouthwatering desserts complete the memorable dining experiences. San Remo caters to all tastes by offering gluten-free, whole wheat, and vegan/vegetarian options, plus a kids’ menu. Giovanni also invites you to host your upcoming parties and special celebrations at San Remo. The staff can help you plan your event: the restaurant has a large private dining area that can be customized for your needs; plus, there is an outdoor patio and plenty of parking. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Count Basie Theater and across the street from the Red Bank train station. Dining hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 4-11 p.m., and Sundays, 3-9 p.m. 115 Oakland St., Red Bank 732-345-8200 (for parties, 732-588-7715) sanremoredbank.com

Red Bank… It’s Your City

R

ed Bank is a year-round bustling hub of 19th-century charm, 21st-century cachet, and just enough grit to keep it real. People come from miles around to enjoy our street musicians and artists, watch iceboat races on the frozen Navesink river, dine at a sidewalk café, and shop in our boutiques. Here you’ll find just the right balance between atmosphere, amenities, and old-fashioned hospitality. We invite you to make Red Bank your winter city! Culture The Count Basie Theatre, Two River Theater, and Bow-Tie Cinema Movie House bring stage and screen to life in Red Bank. And whether it’s the new Detour Gallery, with its impressive murals and iconic sculpture on the exterior, or a tried and true favorite like Beacon Fine Arts, Chetkin Gallery, the Art Alliance, and more, art lovers won’t be at a loss for things to do in Red Bank. Since the days of favorite native son, William “Count” Basie, Red Bank has been a hub for culture and arts. And New Jerseyans think so, too — we were just voted the Best Downtown Arts District by Discover Jersey Arts for the third year in a row! Dining Our restaurants tickle the taste buds with savory and sweet cuisines. From a quick bite, to a business lunch, to an exquisitely prepared artisan meal, you’ll find it here. Coffeehouses, dessert shops, delis, and the most superb casual and fine dining options make Red Bank a true dining mecca that couldn’t possibly be conquered in just one trip. Shopping Red Bank’s famed antique district beckons to those who love all things with a patina of time, and modern boutiques and fashionable shops surprise and delight even the most discriminating tastes. Whether offering the old or the new, our shops provide an experience you won’t find online. Countless treasures through every door make Red Bank a true destination for the finders of the unique.

Home Appliance Buying The Easy Way

B

etter Housekeeping Shop is the trusted resource for homeowners throughout Monmouth County for “everything appliances” — indoors or outdoors. This has been the case for three generations of family ownership, since first opening their store in Red Bank in 1939. Offering a wide selection of top brand appliances at the most competitive prices, coupled with a stellar sales and service team, is the secret to this successful family business. Customers come to Better Housekeeping Shop because their time is precious — they know that when they visit their store, they are speaking with professionals who have decades of experience — something that cannot be matched when shopping elsewhere. Their experienced and highly trained personnel guide customers on the selection of appliances to best maximize their budgets and get the performance and aesthetics they want for their home appliances. And beyond the service, customers know they are getting the best prices in New Jersey on appliances. They trust Better Housekeeping Shop — and

realize that there’s no need to shop anywhere else. We belong to the nation’s largest independent appliance store buying cooperative, so our customers know that they receive the best pricing. According to owner Michael Belforti, “Our customer service” and expertise is what differentiates us in the market. Customers want to be confident that they are purchasing the “right” appliance. They simply cannot get the same personal attention, advice, and expertise from searching the Internet or at many big box type retailers. Our customers know this and appreciate our commitment to this level of customer service. Better Housekeeping Shop provides every major brand of home appliance, we service everything we sell, and we’ve been a family run business for over 75 years.

Red Bank Radiologists, Little Silver Mammography Center offering state-of-the-art Genius™ 3D Mammography™

L

Low dose Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams are clinically proven to increase invasive cancer detection and reduce recall rates

ittle Silver Mammography Center is excited to offer the latest in breast cancer screening advances: low dose Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams, developed by Hologic, Inc., a worldwide leader in women’s health. Utilizing advanced breast tomosynthesis technology, Genius exams are clinically proven to significantly increase the detection of breast cancers while simultaneously decreasing the number of women asked to return for additional testing. In conventional 2D mammography, overlapping tissue is a leading reason why small breast cancers may be missed and normal tissue may appear abnormal, leading to unnecessary callbacks. A Genius exam includes a three-dimensional method of imaging that can greatly reduce this tissue overlap effect. Page 1A Genius low dose 3D Mammography™ exam includes both 2D images and tomosynthesis scans. During the tomosynthesis portion of the exam, an X-ray arm sweeps in a slight arc over the breast, taking multiple images. A computer then converts the images into a stack of thin layers, allowing the radiologist to review the breast tissue one layer at a time. A low dose Genius exam requires no additional compression and each scan is complete in just a few seconds. The platform for the Genius exam is the Hologic Selenia® Dimensions® system, the only clinically superior breast tomosynthesis system as approved by the FDA. The new system is recommended for women of all ages and breast densities. The system allows our radiologists to more effectively pinpoint the size, shape, and location of abnormalities. This leads to better detection and greater peace of mind for our patients. Large clinical studies in the United States and Europe have demonstrated the positive benefits of a Genius 3D Mammography™ exam. The largest study to date on breast cancer screening using the Genius exam was published in the June 25, 2014, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Findings include: A 41 percent increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers. A 29 percent increase in the detection of all breast cancers. A 15 percent decrease in women recalled for additional imaging. Little Silver Mammography Center is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In offering the Genius exam, Little Silver Mammography Center provides the latest and most effective imaging tool for breast cancer screening. By bringing digital tomosynthesis to Little Silver Mammography Center, we can detect breast cancer that conventional digital mammograms miss. One in eight women will develop breast cancer and if we can find it early, the five-year survival rate is 97 percent. Our goal with 3D mammography is to offer early detection even earlier. It’s quick, specifically designed for patient comfort, and unquestionably the best tool available in the fight against breast cancer, according to Dr. Robert Wold, president of Red Bank Radiologists, Little Silver Mammography Center. To schedule a Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam or for more information about this breast health procedure, call 732-741-9595.

T

he holiday season provides the opportunity to look forward to the future with anticipation and the expectation that despite adversity, better times are ahead. This shared experience of the positive human spirit, Hope, exists beyond borders and is not unique to any single country or belief system. Throughout time, Hope is woven into all cultures across the globe. On Sunday, Nov. 19, the Main Gallery art exhibition, “Hope for the Holidays,” the popular Model Train display, and the museum’s Artisans Holiday Gift Gallery will all open with a reception from 4-6 p.m. that is free and open to the public. The Monmouth Museum’s intent is to offer artists’ views of a positive future for their lives, our lives and our shared world.

Red Hot — The Haute Maven

G

Lisa Mayer

rowing up with a seamstress grandmother, a mom who worked for Gloria Vanderbilt, and an aunt in the jewelry business, Maria Elizabeth always felt connected to the fashion industry. That pull grew stronger as the self-made woman put herself through college working in local fashion boutiques. About two years ago, the mom of two toddlers combined her English degree with her love of fashion to create a blog and Instagram called The Haute Maven, documenting her outfits and offering style tips to her more than 16,000 followers. The Haute Maven blog has now come to life in a stunning new boutique on Broad Street in Red Bank. With velvet sofas and crystal chandeliers elegantly contrasting with rustic brick walls, plank floors, and a vintage, tin ceiling, the store reflects Maria’s sense of style: casual chic with a little bit of rock-and-roll edge. As the store’s buyer, Maria curates pieces from brands she personally likes and wears. The selection includes modern fashions from Designers Remix; great leather handbags with cut-out floral embellishments from designer Marina Hoermanseder; chunky hand-knit wool sweaters from I Love Mr. Mittens; and sheer, silk dusters from We Are Leone. Maria has created her own line of faux-fur coats named Sadie’s Furs after her daughter. “The coats come in several colors and look and feel soft and luxurious like real fur, but without the guilt,” she says.

Monmouth Meats is a traditional butcher shop and much more

G

etting personalized attention in an old-fashioned butcher shop is not just a nostalgic memory. It’s alive and thriving in downtown Red Bank at Monmouth Meats. Owner and butcher Stewart Goldstein is continuing the tradition of providing a top-quality, neighborhood butcher shop and meat market, while adding modern enhancements, including delicious oven-ready meats and poultry and specially priced family packages. With the approach of Thanksgiving and other seasonal celebrations, now is the best time to plan shopping lists for upcoming dinners and parties. Monmouth Meats features many specially priced, oven-ready favorites for gourmet, stress-free entertaining. Some of the popular specialties are stuffed roast beef (with spinach and feta), stuffed turkey (with spinach and wild rice), and boneless leg of lamb (with seasoned stuffing). And for diners who love variety, Monmouth Meats sells their own turducken — a deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck stuffed into a deboned turkey — expertly seasoned and ready to pop in the oven. Goldstein has been a butcher his whole life, and he and his expert staff of butchers provide outstanding customer service. “We not only sell the meats; of course, we answer our customers’ questions about how to cook the meats,” he says. Recognized for their quality and

service, Monmouth Meats is the four-time winner of the Asbury Park Press Best of Monmouth Reader Choice Award eight years in a row from 2009 through 2017, and is the five-time winner of the Monmouth Health & Life Magazine Readers’ Choice Award since 2013, voted Best Butcher in Monmouth County. For shoppers looking for top-quality meats at attractive prices, Monmouth Meats offers weekly specials in a wide selection of cuts, such as USDA prime boneless sirloin steaks and USDA Choice bone-in short ribs, all featured on their website. So for shoppers who are tired of the impersonal, one-size-fits-all supermarket approach to meat shopping, a visit to Monmouth Meats will reinvigorate the shopping experience. Open seven days a week. F

eeling exhausted lately? Having skin problems, body aches, and pains or digestive issues? Gaining weight or unable to lose any more weight? It may be time for a body detox. In today’s world, we are constantly being exposed to a multitude of toxins everywhere we go. Air pollution, food preservatives, carcinogens, medication overload, cleaning products, and even chemicals in the water we drink. Added up through time, these toxins can cause major health problems, lack of energy, irritability, craving for sugar, skin irritations, bags under the eyes, and lack of general well being! 1. Get an Energy Boost By cutting out extra sugar, caffeine, trans fat, and saturated fat, and replacing them with fresh fruits and vegetables, you’ll be getting a natural energy boost, one that comes without a resultant crash. An Ionic Foot Detox can give you the boost of energy you’ve been looking for! In just 23 minutes harmful toxins are pulled out from every cell of your body, right through the reflex points of feet into soothing warm water. 2. Rid the Body of Any Excess Waste Cleansing the colon with Colon Hydrotherapy is an important part of the detoxing process because those toxins need to exit the body, and a backed-up colon can cause them to be reintroduced into the body, rather than exiting as planned. Sticking with fruits and vegetables even after the detox program is completed is a good way to keep things moving. 3. Helps with Weight Loss The heat from a FIT Bodywrap actually breaks stored fat down and converts it into fatty acids that are used by your muscles for energy. As the FIT Bodywrap heats your body, you begin to sweat to cool down. This sweat is fueled by the energy from the converted fatty acids. You will burn more calories over a 60-minute FIT session than you would by running in a marathon!

Red Bank Antique Center 53rd Anniversary

O

n Saturday, Nov. 18, come join Guy Johnson and some of the over 100 dealers in “The Best All Round Antique Center in New Jersey” for our 53rd anniversary. There will be refreshments and many sales throughout our two buildings at 195 and 226 West Front St., Red Bank. Feel free to browse the countless antiques, collectibles, sterling, art, jewelry, lamps, pottery, clocks, art glass, linens, mid-century pieces, and furniture. We also offer jewelry repair and design, clock, toy, and doll repair, lamp rewiring, furniture repair, upholstery, and appraisals. The center was started in 1964 by Nan Johnson with 12 dealers in an old clothing factory. Her idea was to have a “permanent antique show” with no admission charge. She soon expanded to three buildings and 150 dealers. It is probably the oldest antique co-op in the country. Her son Guy came into the business in 1970 when he graduated from high school. Half a century has passed and although the dealers and customers have come and gone, and tastes and styles have changed, we are still here. We hope you will come and celebrate this triumph. We are open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday, 11-5; Sunday, 12-5, BLDG II. Visit redbankantiques.com or call 732-842-3393.

4. Stronger Immune System A working lymphatic system balances the body’s fluids, absorbs fat into your system, and helps your body’s immunological defense. It’s important to keep it in tip-top shape! Bio-Electric Lymphatic Drainage improves the entire circulation of the body. By allowing your body to release toxins, accumulated fluid, and proteins between the cells, healthy balance is restored. 5. Healthier Skin Improve your skin’s appearance with regular use of an Infrared Sauna. Open wounds heal quicker with reduced scarring. Far infrared heat therapy helps acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, and any skin lesions or cuts. It also reduces wrinkles, makes skin look radiant, and firms and improves skin tone and elasticity. Regular use may also help reduce cellulite trapped beneath the skin, lessen the appearance of scars, and help burns heal significantly. Detoxifying the body has been practiced for many centuries in many different cultures to relax, rejuvenate, and replenish the body. When we eliminate these harmful toxins from our body and then nourish our body with whole healthy foods and nutrients it renews our ability to maintain optimal wellness and prevent disease. Vanessa Galati-Drew is the founder of Cleansing Concepts, an exclusive detoxification facility with a new location at the Galleria in Red Bank. She turned to holistic natural medicine when she almost died after conventional methods failed to help her with her digestive issues and a misdiagnosed ruptured appendix. She discovered colon hydrotherapy, which helped her to heal. Vanessa has dedicated the last 12 years of her life to helping others rebuild their health and well-being. ertility treatment has changed tremendously over the last 10 years, thanks to specialists and scientists at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey (RMANJ). With success rates exceeding 86 percent — well above the national average reported by SART.org — RMANJ is leading the way in providing the gold standard of care. From comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS), to elective single embryo transfer (eSET) and frozen embryo transfer (FET), physicians at RMANJ in Eatontown are using the most innovative treatments to redefine success for hopeful parents from New Jersey and around the world. “When IVF was first introduced in the ’80s, success rates were much lower and the prospect of having multiple deliveries was much higher,” said Thomas A. Molinaro, M.D., MSCA, FACOG, the lead physician at RMANJ’s Eatontown and nearby Freehold practices. “Today, the picture is much brighter, thanks to advanced technology, stateof-the-art laboratories, and a commitment to one healthy baby at a time.” One of the most significant scientific developments in infertility treatment has been the advance of preimplantation genetic screening — a process that dramatically improves the way an embryo is selected for transfer.
