Pre-Health Scholars Program

Join a cohort of like-minded students in our Honors Pre-Health Scholars Program. Features of this program include:

• Specialized pre-health curriculum and advising

• Consideration for any of our accelerated partnerships (except NJMS and SUNY) after first year at NJIT

• Completion of a degree as a traditional (non-accelerated) pre-health student

• 88% medical school acceptance rate over the past two years Scholars always receive one-on-one, personalized advising and coaching from their first day at NJIT.

"The Honors College at NJIT provided me with the flexibility and opportunities I needed to pursue a diverse range of experiences. It offered a unique nexus of cutting-edge research at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, innovative leadership with the eSTEM Competition at the Center for Pre-College Programs, impactful volunteering at University Hospital, and more. I am thankful to the Honors College for its welcoming community that empowered me to embark on this next step in my educational journey. "

“I knew NJIT was the right fit for me as a pre-med student because of the numerous opportunities afforded to Dorman Scholars. The personalized one-on-one advising paired with NJIT’s strength in undergraduate research, has allowed me to excel in my studies and pursue my many interests. Through the Honors College, I have been able to stay engaged in my community and volunteered in the surrounding Newark area. These opportunities only strengthened my preparation for medical school and professional goals.”

- Portia Shaheed ‘22H, Biochemistry, Currently enrolled at Rowan University, School of Osteopathic Medicine

“Joining the Honors College expanded my horizons beyond what I had originally thought possible by supporting my aspirations to develop training in both the humanities and the sciences through a double major in biology and history. I am embarking on my career as a physician-scientist, which is only possible due to the stipends and awards for conferences and bench research I’ve received through the Honors College, and due to the amazing personal mentoring and advising that has helped me grow as a person and applicant. I’ve grown to appreciate the human art of medicine, and the artistry in research design during my time at the NIH after graduation, and I will continue to be grateful to the Honors College when I begin medical school in 2023.”
