Graphic Design for Architectural Screen at Boulder Hotel
Deadline: October 21, 2016 Purpose NINE dot ARTS invites local artists, designers and creatives to submit designs for use on a 12panel metal screen for the upcoming Embassy Suites hotel of Boulder. The hotel involves a partnership between NINE dot ARTS and Sage Hospitality, a leading hotel management company that understands the power of original art to create unique, surprising and memorable experiences for their guests. Since 1997, Sage has leveraged the power of art to transform its hotels. Sage's company-wide initiative to support local artists provides significant direct financial support to the creative community. Project Description The total design space of the screen is 24’ wide x 16’ high, split evenly into 12 panels, each 4’ wide x 8’ high. Please see the included images for reference. The panels will be lit and displayed in the courtyard of the new hotel. Because of the fabrication technique, it is required that artist submit a design or pattern that can be cut in to metal sheets. Much like a stencil pattern cut in to thin plastic, the final design will be cut in to sheet metal. Designs should be formatted to show the positive space of the final sheet metal pattern (sans cut outs or holes). Awards The top five selected designs will receive a cash prize of $500 each. The winning artist grants a one-time license for their design to be fabricated and installed for permanent display in the Embassy Suites courtyard. All copyright remains with the artist. Any artist may submit but preference will be given to CU students, alumni, and faculty. Submissions Artists will submit application materials to info@ninedotarts.com. Design file in .ai or high resolution .pdf format. (file must be in accordance with the specified screen dimensions and file format requirements)
Artists are encouraged to submit up to 3 images of their previous design work. Tentative Selection Schedule October 21, 2016: Artist submissions are due November 4, 2016: Panel selects top 5 designs Timing tbd: Panel selects winning design Notification Winning Artists will receive their awards after delivering completed design files ready for fabrication. Designs will be purchased and become the property of The Embassy Suites Hotel, Boulder. Once purchased, The Embassy Suites Hotel, Boulder retains rights to use images of the artwork in promotional materials, in which case the artist’s name and title of the artwork will be credited.
