General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION: The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6.

VIEWING: The Sale Cattle will be available for viewing at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Thursday 3rd October from 4pm - 7pm and morning of the sale.

HOTELS: There are many hotels within the area, ranging from four star to excellent Bed and Breakfast accommodation, a list of which may be found on page 4 of the catalogue.

CONDITIONS OF SALE: Maybe Herd – all animals will be sold under Dispersal Sale rules which means that no warranty is implied or given.

Beeches & Impulsive Herds – all animals from these herds are sold under British Limousin Cattle Society auction rules and conditions of sale drawn up by the N.B.A. These entries will be sold subject to these rules along with the Auctioneers’ General Conditions of Sale, both available on request. In the event pf any discrepancy between the two sets of conditions, the N.B.A. conditions of sale shall prevail.

INSURANCE: A representative of H & H Insurance Brokers, will be present at the sale and will be pleased to quote Purchasers for transit and other risks.

METHOD OF SALE: All cattle will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers.

COMMISSIONS: The Auctioneers will dutifully execute commissions to purchase for buyers unable to attend the sale personally, upon receipt of written instructions.

REGISTRATIONS: All pedigree stock in the Sale are registered with the British Limousin Cattle Society (Tel. 02476 696500).

PEDIGREE TRANSFERS: Maybe Herd: the official pedigree transfers will be paid by the vendors and effected by the British Limousin Cattle Society. Purchasers must notify the sales office on the day.

Pedigree transfers for the Beeches and Impulsive herds will automatically be transferred free of charge to all BLCS members.

SEMEN ROYALTY SCHEME BULL REGISTER: Purchasers are asked to note that where a female is catalogued as being served/inseminated by a “Semen Royalty” Sire the appropriate royalty will be payable by the purchaser prior to registration of the calf.

SETTLEMENT AND CLEARANCE OF STOCK: Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official ‘Pass Slip’, obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement.

Dispersal Sale of the

MAYBE HERD

The Maybe herd was established in 1994 with the sole aim to produce easy calving, naturally fleshed functional bulls for our 450 cow commercial enterprise. The decision has been made to disperse the herd due to family circumstances and in a bid to reduce the workload as we head towards retirement.

With this in mind we will be offering for sale some very promising young bulls, but retaining a small number ourselves to continue to feed into the commercial herd.

Our herd was founded with 4 heifers purchased from Hartside, Ruffland, Lodge and Sarkley herds. Apart from the progeny of Cracrop Fussy and College Sadie (purchased later at the respective dispersals) and one other animal, all our cattle can be traced directly back to these 4 heifers.

The bulls we’ve produced have served the commercial herd well, achieving top prices when we used to sell finished cattle. Now the weaned cattle are all sold store and are much sought after in the sale rings. Home bred sired calves regularly win the ‘pen of four’ at the H & H Continental Suckled Store Sale in spring and autumn at Carlisle. Surplus bulls have found a ready market at home from new and repeat customers.

While selected heifers are chosen to breed pure and strengthen the herd base, surplus animals are retained as commercial animals.

Winning the North West Limousin Cattle Breeders herd competition for 7 out of the last 10 years and runners up in the other 3 (in either the medium or large section) reflects the standard we have achieved with selective breeding, and we are sure you will not be disappointed in what we offer for sale.

It is our belief that young animals should not be force fed, so the calves have only had access to creep for a very short period pre-sale. The in-calf cows have been kept in a condition where we would want to calve them ourselves.

We have enjoyed considerable success in the show ring; our current show team already have a number of championships to their names.

These are genuine, honest, hardworking animals, managed on a commercial basis, and we are confident they would make a welcome addition to any herd.

CURRENT STOCK SIRES

Lowflan Lee Lowflan Lee a Gunnerfleet Eros son was purchased in October 2016 for £5775. Lee is offered for sale in his ‘working clothes’, he has received no supplementary feed and has been running with cows from mid-May to the sale date. It is proof of his natural fleshing that he remains in excellent condition. A very well balanced, correct and easily handled bull we have had to assist in no correctly presented calvings. There are 61 straws of semen held at Semen Store, these will go to the purchaser of the bull. Approximately 70 straws are held in our on-farm flask, these will be retained for our own use only.

Barrons Mr Man Barrons Mr Man is sire to a small number of calves. He was purchased in Carlisle October 2017 for £8190. A Mereside Godolphin son he is a long, muscular bull. While fertile he fails to consistently settle cows in calf and is why several cows appear to have lost time. For this reason as we cannot guarantee his ability to serve cows we will not forward him in the sale.
