Championing Campus Journalism at 6th Cruiser Fellowship By Kristina Angela Jao
To develop the journalistic skills of pupils, to continue providing adequate knowledge and understanding of Campus Journalism, the 6th Cruiser Fellowship: Seminar Workshop on Campus Journalism was held last October 29 - 30, 2012 at the Surigao Education Center - Audio Visual Room on the 3rd floor, wherein the fourth, fifth and sixth grade SEC Montessorians participated. The Montessorians were divided into three groups: The Green Arbiters, The Blue Watchdogs and The Red Scribes. The seminar was facilitated by Ms. Vanessa Almeda, Mr. Fryan Abkilan and Mr. Judel Paredes. On the first day, Ms. Almeda, a freelance journalist, taught the pupils how to write a feature story and how to be a photojournalist. Afterwards, Mr. Fryan Abkilan, a radio broadcaster, taught the pupils on how to be an aspiring scriptwriter and a radio broadcaster. After the lecture, the Montessorians were divided into smaller groups for the presentation for radio broadcasting that will be held on the following day. On the second day, the Montessorians were given time to make their script and practice their presentation. Then, every group performed one by one on the room’s mini stage with the music provided by the school paper advisers. After radio broadcasting, Mr. Judel Paredes taught the pupils on how to be an excellent editorial writer and editorial cartoonist. In the afternoon, the awarding ceremony began. A lot of Montessorians received different awards in different categories. The pupils were thrilled to hear that the speakers mentioned how great they were. The speakers also mentioned how far they can go in the field of writing. The seminar-workshop was held to prepare the pupils for the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC). During the seminar, the pupil showed their skills in being journalists. Everyone had fun and became journalists in their own way and in no time.
DSPC 2012: SEC - M snags 3 top awards (from page 1) garnered the sixth place in Radio Broadcasting English out of eight participants from different schools under the Surigao City Division. The participants were trained and coached by Teacher NinaJade R. Millano, Teacher Daniel Q. Lentic, Teacher Vecylt A. Salvador and Mrs. Evelyn S. Cortes, MAEd. The top seven winners joined the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2012 held in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur last November 26 - 29, 2012.

Mr. Linkin puts music in the air! By Cee Gee Doltz Bacud
Mr. Michael John Linkin, father of SEC Montessori pupil Juan Michael Linkin, conducted a surprise program last February 1, 2013 at the SEC Montessori Mini Amphitheater. The program started at 3:15 in the afternoon. Teacher Marjolyn Devocion did the welcome remarks. The introduction of the guests was done by Teacher Mark Victor Segador. Mr. Linkin discussed the importance of music in modern times. He showed the Montessorians some brass instruments, such as
the hornet, trumpet, trombone and a tuba. He also showed the pupils how to play different brass instruments. Videos were presented showing children playing the instruments with the speaker who was the personal conductor. Some Montessorians and teachers were allowed to play the brass instruments. Among them was Kurk Kobee Arana, Michael Andro Bugas, Clara Ranalan, Teacher Daniel Lentic, Cristopher Matthew Esparrago and Teacher Yan Arceta.
The purpose of the program was to let Montessorians who are fond of playing musical instruments to develop their skills. It is also one way to communicate that music is also important in our lives. After Mr. Linkin’s lecture, Teacher Yan asked the Montessorians about the different types of brass instruments that Mr. Linkin showed us. After that, Teacher Yan gave a speech of gratitude to Mr. Linkin and a token. The surprise program was ended by saying a heartfelt “Thank You” to the speaker.
