IDENTIFY COMMUNITY ISSUES ON SITE AND ATTEMPT TO INFUSE IT WITH THERAPEUTIC SPACES AND VEGETATION.


COURTYARD •Pass a courtyard-like space after the shop lots. •Outdoor activities can be conducted under a shaded canopy of trees. •The weather beaten wall is complimented with a new plant wall.

ENTRANCE • The forked entrance to the community space or prayer hall.

ABLUTION/BATHROOMS •Conduct Wudu with a curtain of spanish moss, voids, and forest outlook.

PRAYER HALL •The symbolic Mihrab and Minbar is practically removable with a floor directing the kiblat. •Floor levelled to determine gender separation, pray on floor planted with moss.

LOBBY •A sitting lounge and passageway to with an off-the-edge quality. •Or, choose to just pass through the building without participating in the circulation while being able to feel the plants on the wall and floor.

SOUP KITCHEN AND LIBRARY/CLASSROOM •A separation of spaces while enhancing the double level height effect. •Spanish moss for shading (only needs air and moisture). Plants on the wall able start and organic vegetable vertical garden. •Able to facilitate and sustain the Myanmarese refugees ability to live.

CANOPY WALKWAY •A transition between the urban extrusion to a complete botanical sanctuary where the concrete jungle of the city has disappeared.

OFFICE •The office of the building pitches a full panoramic surrounding view and effective privacy. •With spanish moss to enhance the frail lightness of the structure, with shading and cooling qualities.

LOUNGE •Place to wait for transportation, watch for guardians. •Denotes the subtle entrance into culinary school. •Accessed by staircase overlooking loading bay.

BISTRO •Visual connection between public, students, kitchen skills for assimilation. •Pass by an open grill for pizzas to tease appetite. •Banquet hall can be closed during low hours.

The skin on the outside is multifunctional as a plant gutter, shading, water harvesting and ventilation. The inner skin contains the climate-proof section of the office space. 2014 Role: Student DEAKIN UNIVERSITY Built Environments Research Project: Biomimetic Principles applied to Water Harvesting from Humidity in Space Habitats Mentors : Evolutionary Ecologist John Endler and Building Systems Architect Mark Luther (Australia) Extra-terrestrial space habitats reconsidered in this project. In specific, the humidity water recycling component in the Water Walls Life Support Project was chosen to be investigated as current humidifiers in the space stations are prone to mechanical malfunctions. By identifying and analyzing the information of the physical, mechanical and natural water harvesting and recycling processes, this paper aims to compile and review the related information for futuristic and innovative zero-energy prototype proposals.
