CAFE NIKKI at nikki beach

NIKKI’S In December 1997, Jack Penrod launched Café Nikki in the courtyard of his Penrod’s beach club in Miami Beach. It was designed as a beautiful homage to his recently departed daughter Nicole, with a butterfly garden restaurant. Surrounded by trees, flowers and fountains, Café Nikki was a magical spot. The first incarnation was a chic restaurant and lounge, spurred on by the sexiness of the just emerging South Beach scene. Tapas style plates included seared tuna sashimi (quite nouvelle back then), ostrich salad, honey baked brie, smoked duck pizza and fried calamari. Socialites drank chocolate martinis and marveled at the all-white décor. From its debut, celebrities and A-Listers were regular patrons of Café Nikki. Most significantly, this charming al fresco eatery became the impetus for the worldwide brand Nikki Beach, now with 12 locations spanning the globe. Flash forward to 2015. Café Nikki has undergone a modern transformation. Yes, the garden is still here. The butterfly theme remains omnipresent. And the good vibes that surround this spot are strong. But Café Nikki is more progressive these days. With its 2.0 renovation, Café Nikki Miami Beach is a verdant paradise with tropical accents and a noticeably relaxed, almost meditative, atmosphere. There are lush flowers and trees, including a 40-year-old staghorn plant, whose presence under an all-white gazebo appears to be raining greenery. Stunning orchids cling to tree branches, creating colorful accents throughout. Comfortable couches, seating areas and suspended wicker chairs continue the cozy theme, welcoming guests to stay for a while.
