Public Safety
BY ARTIE FURMAN - CMCA, AMS DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
May, at last, has arrived and along with it comes our busy season here at Pocono Farms. The official opening of all our amenities, the Annual Fishing Derby and more! I expect this year to be one of our busiest. Permit wise, we have had no rest. There have been so many permits submitted already. When you are filling out your tree permit, please remember to mark the trees that you want us to look at. I hate to hold up the process, but I cannot issue the permit if I do not know which trees you want to remove.
As you all know, our golf course is now open. As such, the golf course is for golfers only. There is a common misconception that is, if the gates are closed you can go for a walk, run or you can bring Lassie or Scooby Doo out there for a nice stroll because the course is closed. That is incorrect. So please, unless you are out playing 9 or 18, you are not supposed to be on the golf course.
asked for your ID, “I just didn’t have time to get them, or you should know who I am”, is not a valid reason not to have them. Our staff is only performing their job and that is to make sure that our members are those using your amenities. You cannot assume that our staff should know you or that they can look it up.
• Please do not be offended when one of our staff members asks for your ID badge. It is virtually impossible for all our staff, especially the seasonal staff, to know who every single member is. Please know that our efforts in checking for valid badges is to protect the amenities that you pay to maintain.
• We do understand that we have some staff and some members who have known each other for a long time. We still ask those members to have their badges with them.
• With our outdoor pool and new splash pad scheduled to open for Memorial Weekend, it is advisable that you plan ahead and get your ID badges updated with the current year sticker as soon as possible. The Member Services office is closed on Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day Weekend, and you will not be able to get your badges updated on those days.
If you have any questions about your badge, amenity stickers being updated or guests passes, please stop by or contact our Member Services Office located at 182 Lake Road, Tobyhanna, PA.

The time has come for lawn mowing to begin. Trust me, I can hear all the heavy sighs as you read that. I did it too when I was servicing my mowers in preparation for this season. Alas it is something that cannot be ignored. Please be mindful that even though you may not be here, the grass still grows and must be maintained. By now you should have cleaned your swales to allow for the free flow of water. Remember that April showers bring May flowers. The more debris that is left in the swale will only add to the potential flooding during heavy rain. So please, for your sake and your neighbors, keep those areas free of leaves, sticks and other debris.
Finally, the bears are voracious eaters after coming out of hibernation. Remember that you should not put your cans at the roadside sooner than the night before pickup. It only gives the animals more time to sample your cooking. Once the cans are emptied, you have until Wednesday to pull the cans back. They are not to be left at the roadside. If the animals do get into your trash, it is your responsibility to clean it up.
As always, should you have questions or concerns, feel free to ask. We are just a phone call away.
