From The General Manager
BY DAVE TIMKO, CMCA, AMS, General Manager – PFCCA, Inc.
Now that winter looks to be behind us, we look forward to Spring and all that comes with gearing up for our busy season. Instead of snow removal, we now switch our efforts to getting the outdoor amenities open.
is great for everyone as it comes with many positive benefits. We will be extending the hours of The Lakeside Grill & Pub and opening the 9th Hole Grill on the golf course.

As I write this article on April 5, 2023, we are gearing up to open the golf course on Friday, April 7. Mother Nature was kind to us this winter from the golf course perspective. We removed our greens covers on Monday, March 27 and the turf was in great shape. Getting the course open in good shape sets the tone for the entire summer season. It allows us to really push the marketing products and expose potential members to the course early in the season. Typically, our course takes a little more time to green up just due to the temperatures in Tobyhanna coming out of winter. Coming out of winter in great shape

As the weather continues to warm up and as time permits, the maintenance staff will start to clean up other amenities in preparation for the summer season. These amenities include: the bocce court, sand volleyball, shuffleboard and the tennis courts. If you would like to fish in the lake, a valid PA fishing license is required by those ages 16 and up along with a 2023 PFCCA amenity sticker. Your operation assessment pays for the treatment of the lake and the stocking of the fish we put in the lake each year. A fishing license can be purchased at the sporting goods section at Walmart.
Once your dues are paid in full, please remember to stop by the Member
Services office to have your ID’s updated with the current year sticker. As the weather warms up, more members are out and about enjoying the amenities we maintain for you. Our Public Safety staff will be out there ensuring that you, as dues paying members of the Association, are actually the ones using your amenities. They will ask to see your badge and that you have your badge with you. This is not meant to harass you, but to ensure that you are the ones using your amenities. We are not open to the Public. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. We also would like to remind everyone that when you are walking your dog, they must be on a leash and cannot be on the PFCCA amenities. In addition, as we exit winter and we finally get to open our windows, please be considerate of your neighbors and how far noise travels when there are no leaves on the trees. We all can appreciate good music, mindful of our neighbors.
We have ordered news around the lake. The signs will state to not feed the ducks/geese. It may seem harmless, but it creates members, their children, grandchildren and guests. It is also not healthy for the ducks/geese to be fed bread, cereal, crackers or any other store-bought

When May arrives, it means Spring Training is over and “honey-do” season has arrived. All of the projects that your wife or significant other has been accruing over the winter are now being put in a “most important to be done” order. With the possibility of the “bad weather” excuse being eliminated, there is really no place to hide. Just give in, you are going to lose anyway. Start putting the tool and supplies list together. Once you have negotiated the number of hours per project against the number of hours on the golf course, you can begin in earnest. First step, does anything need a permit or review by the code official? Lately, houses have been reported for not being earth tone colors. For any tree removal, you better check with Artie. Permits are required when a tree is over a certain diameter. Over the years, standards were established so that we can do our best to keep this community a little jewel in the country. Now as we see the area amid commercial growth, it really will take all of us to maintain this spot that we all love to enjoy.
Recently, I was concerned when one of our long-time volunteers did not answer the phone after numerous calls. After several hours and additional calls, I thought I should have someone check to see if all was okay. I was advised to call the police non-emergency number, 570992-9911, and request a wellness check. Within a very short time, I received a call from the policeman who said this person was having phone problems and everything was all right. When I tried to apologize for calling in a false alarm, he said they were happy to help and to never hesitate to call when there is a concern. As I am getting older and living alone, I have become more aware that if a fall, accident or a medical emergency occurs it may take hours before the problem is discovered. Several years ago, the Crime Watch Committee wanted to set up a voluntary call system. However, legal problems prevented it from being instituted. If you know an old friend or neighbor that lives alone, it is a good idea to give them a call every once in a while just to say hello.
Our volunteers rode for about 126 hours in March. Several of the volunteers drove multiple shifts. We always have room for more drivers! If you are interested in volunteering, call the office at 570-894-4435 or leave Russ Kelly a message at 570-894-4034.
