Performer Spotlight

By Moutasem Seyam JILLIAN JANSON

Jillian Janson has seen it all. With such accolades like Best Adult Feature Dancer, which she won last year(from us), and a Female Performer of the Year nomination for this year’s NightMoves Awards under her belt as proof. She has the time and experience behind her from an active career in the adult industry and beyond deserving of every nod she receives. So naturally, she has valuable wisdom to share for newer talents just entering the biz.

“You de nitely need to focus on yourself. This is a prime time to focus on ‘you’, everything else will come after or later on. Get your work done, even though people want to hang out, don’t completely blow them o . Because you are young you don’t want to sit with regrets. You need to pick your battles. I used to go out a lot when I was younger, back when I wasn’t safe with my career choices. I should have picked my career instead of going out with the girls. Those were my prime time years going into my

early 20s. So again you have to pick your battles, be responsible but also have fun. Save your money!”

Jillian loves what she does, in case you didn’t notice her amazing performances on fi lm or a stage, she revealed this to me with bubbly excitement as we talked on the phone. She left Minnesota to be a porn star ditching a routinely ordinary life for a more interesting one.

“What I love about the industry is that I wake up and it is something di erent every day. I wake up at either 6 in the morning or 9 in the morning. Or sometimes I don’t have to wake up until 2 (in the afternoon), there is always something going on that day, whether o of set or just traveling. I don’t’ feel trapped like I did before I moved from Minnesota.”

As Jillian grew within the industry she has seen some changes since she fi rst started in 2013. This also allows her to give the best perspective on what it means to be a “porn star” since she is a performer with staying power in a fast-moving business.

“It is a lot di erent now than it was when I started. I love that I got in when I got in because I feel a lot of girls now have to work even harder to get up to get that status of a “porn star”. If you just come into the industry for six months and just quit then that doesn’t make you a “porn star.” It is not (how it is).“

The discussion brought

upon the topic of a “shelf life” in the industry since nothing lasts forever. Her output was a meaningful take since she has outlasted the suspected turnaround rate for young performers. With confi dence Jillian gives her take.

“I say there is a shelf life and it depends on the mentality and the personality about how you deal with the industry. You have to be able to take the punches it is just like high school. Whether you’re a newbie, or coming up, or eighteen or thirty you are still going to be treated the same. You still have to prove yourself. That is what a shelf life is about, not here just for the money, just for the fame, or the sex. You have to be in it for all of it. Or it starts to outweigh each other. “
