As his beloved sister Madeleine succumbs to a mysterious illness, Sir Roderick Usher invites his old friend Allan to his castle for support. Jean Epstein & Luis Bunuel’s 1928 interpretation of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale of paranoia and suspense is considered cinema’s first true Gothic horror. In The Nursery’s new score incorporates sound design along with more traditional instrumentation (including shruti box & sansula) to complement the Gothic style of Epstein and Bunuel’s haunting, avant-garde vision.
