Distill your research into simple, clear messages

Identify your audience.

The online world is a big place; you need to focus on who exactly you’re talking to, to target your message and social media efforts effectively.

Who will benefit most from hearing about your research and where do they ‘hang out’ online? What problems do they have that your research might address? Why should they care? Don’t forget to consider what you want to get out of it too - is it to raise awareness, attract more funding, get in the news?!

Answering these questions will help you identify your core audience, decide where to focus your social media efforts (here’s a handy demographic tool from Sprout Social to decide on the best platform), and what messages you need to get across to appeal to them.
