THE MODERN BOUDOIR
RESIDENTIAL REVIT | ENSCAPE
CONCEPT: “ROCOCO REVIVED” BEDROOM
Advertisement
In this design of a classic boudoir, elements of the Rococo Period are seen throughout the design, materiality and furniture but with a modern twist.

The Layout
The floor plan of this modern rendition of a "boudoir" includes similar spaces that would be present during the Rococo period. One would enter the bedroom using the west doors, which includes a canopy bed, day bed/bench and relaxation nook adjacent to a fireplace. The east side of the space is devoted entirely to the boudoir, which consists of a chaise sofa and a makeup vanity. It is semi open to the bedroomvia an archway and is characterized by a largebay window on the east facade.

Bedroom
The four poster bed with curtains in the bedroom is a modern version of the canopy Badminton and tent styles of the Neoclassical and Rococo periods. At the foot of the bed sits a very modernized and simplified version of the day bed, which was quite popular during the 18th century Neoclassical French period. Gilded accents seen throughout the space combined with the coffered ceiling add to the present day twist on the detailed and ornamental baroque characteristics of the Rococo style.

The chimney piece in this bedroom follows the same idea during the French Neoclassical and Baroque periods that the fireplace is a large statement piece that incorporates the surrounding architecture into its design. Although this modern chimney piece is not as ornamental heavily carved with detail as those seen during the 18th century, it still makes a solid statement by acting as the centerpiece of two large floor to ceiling arched windows and contains the large accent mirror above the mantle.

Boudoir
The boudoir space is sectioned off and semi private from the bedroom with the open rectangular archway leading into the space. The room is characterized by another modern day bed/chaise, meant to be used for relaxation and further pulling from the Rococo period that leisurely furniture was of great importance. The makeup vanity station consists of a swivel chair with gold accents along with a desk containing drawers and an oval mirror, perfect for a woman to take her time and pay attention to self care in this personalized space. The curved legs and components in the vanity pull from the cabriole leg and curved, organic elements seen in the intricately detailed Neoclassical furniture. The softly patterned wallpaper on the back wall, large bay window and additional gold detailing in the wall mirror and chandelier all pull together the touches of Neoclassical and Rococo elements in the space.
