Brunklaus Amsterdam since 1992

‘a personal attitude towards design’ Brunklaus Amsterdam was founded 20 years ago by Nicolette Brunklaus. It is a company with a personal attitude towards design. Our goal is to inspire comfort in beauty and to communicate stories to our clients through our design.

Our collections are unique, intimate and poetic. The products have a strong graphic identity. They embrace nostalgia paired with a ďŹ erce urge toward the contemporary, inspiring printed textiles towards a radical new point of view. Nicolette Brunklaus manipulates her own photographs to create unique textiles and lighting objects. The images are chosen for their colour palette and poetic meaning. In this way, our product design remains unaffected by popular interest while staying at the forefront of thoughtprovoking contemporary design. Imagery is used to create our collections of lighting and small furniture as well as printed pillows and fabrics.

All our products are designed to be timeless. Thanks to their variety of sizes, fabrics and styles, the products are suited for many lifestyles. They are handcrafted exclusively in the Netherlands with the highest attention for detail.

Indeed: quality and diversity are extremely important to the Brunklaus brand. Because of our constant quest for high quality, diversity, poetry and affordable prices we have developed long lasting relationships with our clients. These relationships allow us to grow each season. Since 1992.

All products are handmade and produced in the Netherlands

abstract

abstract These printed textiles reflect textures and colours abstracted from the everyday. The Gold Pendant lamp lightly sways, creating an ebb and flow in the image. In the same way, the silk scarf moves on the human body highlighting a different aspect of the textile. The cotton pillows express the structure and form of the fabric with rich tones.

canvas collage

canvas collage The Canvas Collage series (2012) reinterprets the traditional quilt by recreating the patchwork technique in printing. The woven structures of worn fabrics from long ago acknowledge the history that inspires us. One rich patch worked textile sheet is cut into six pieces, so that each pillow is unique. The silk scarf and pillow show exaggerated close-ups of woven structures pieced together as a collage.

faded dahlia

faded dahlia Inspired by a composition of dried flowers, the floral prints give the 'faded Dahlia's' (2012) a rough texture of time. The flowers, abstracted and collaged, form a scene within each frame of the textile. These pillows, available in a variety of sizes, evoke a remembrance of things past, with a Rembrandt-inspired palette of yellows and blues to reinvent a Dutch classic.

nature works

nature works The longing for the pure and quiet calm of the forests: a precious dream. The Shady Tree (2002) keeps her forest hidden on the inside. Once seated under this magic shade you are pulled into nature’s rest. The Forest textiles and the Shady Tree lamps are Brunklaus classics. Thanks to the new seasons’ colours (2012) and the new pendant system of natural oak with its grey textile cord, the Shady Tree looks fresh again.

dried flowers

dried flowers Traditions of the Dutch still life re-emerge in dried flower and bird textiles. The flowers, enlarged and collaged, in a composition of bright colours and reflected shadows create a scene within each frame. The pattern of singing birds evokes memories of baroque embellishment…

henriette

henriette A collaboration with Henriette Smit. Reinventing forgotten family relics, macramé and needlepoint craft from 1890 to the present. These trompe l’oeil collages (2012) of old handwork tell a story of time and endurance. The manipulated colour compositions expose, together with the magnification, the imperfections of old techniques while embracing the nostalgia of the craft.
