INSPIRED BY NATURE/ CONTRASTED BY STRUCTURE
01 HOTEL TERRA
TERROIR/
In the modern world, the trend cycle is now shorter than ever. That’s why Hotel Terra follows the “terrior” principle of architecture. Terroir celebrates identity over uniform world culture. Hotel Terra celebrates the parts of itself that make it unique, rather than trying to adhere to trends.
SUSTAINABILITY/
By not adhering to trends, this hotel invests in long-lasting furniture and finishes that are sustainably made. This fights the trend cycle by buying better quality furniture less often.
TERROIR/
CLIENT/
The client, BD Hotels, requested a sustainable, land-inspired hotel to be placed alongside their existing Maritime Hotel. BD Hotels owns 24 boutique hotels in NYC, each one of them boasting a unique theme.
Terroir is an architectural concept that originates from French winemaking. It says that every factor such as sunlight, soil, climate, topography, etc. impacts the taste of the wine. This is reflected in design when every little detail is carefully considered to create a timeless, impactful, thoughtful design.

KITCHEN STRAWBERRY MOON
DESCRIPTION/
Located in Malibu, California, Strawberry Moon Kitchen puts an upscale twist on a cafe. The Strawberry Moon is a cosmic event that occurs only once per year in June. In the past, farmers knew their fruit would be ripe when this full moon would occur.
Strawberry Moon Kitchen celebrates this tradition with a commitment to fresh, locally farmed food.
FRESH/
Serving fresh, healthy food is the top priority of this cafe. This commitment to fresh is reflected in the design of Strawberry Moon Kitchen through a breezy, open plan that lets sunlight flow through the space.
MULTIPURPOSE/
Strawberry Moon Kitchen is not just a restautant, but a coffee bar as well. Guests can enjoy a cup of coffee and work on their laptops in a relaxed lounge environment toward the front of the space.
ENGAGING/
To keep guests engaged in the present moment, this restaurant regularly hosts local musicians perform on the stage in the dining room. This builds a sense of community for the locals, as they get to connect with musicians from their area.

LEE CONDO
DESCRIPTION/
This condo in Seoul, South Korea utilizes the healing power of plants to remind Min-Jun, the owner with an amputated leg, to “bloom where he was planted”. In other words, this condo design will help remind him to grow from his circumstance.
CONSIDERATIONS/
Amputees are prone to falling back into the stages of grief at any time. To prevent this, this condo was designed to keep the occupants connected with nature and daylight via the incorporation of healing houseplants and expansive windows.
ACCESSIBILITY/
Accessibility was a key factor in this design- this condo accommodates his wheelchair, with roll-up counters, roll-in showers and wide corridors. However, MinJun does not want to feel dependent on his wheelchair, so there is plenty of room for him to safely nagivate the space while walking with his prosthetic.
