t’s quite extraordinary that after four generations, this Italian fashion house remains a family-owned business. Even though the brand celebrated their 50th anniversary earlier in 2013, it is still considered a bastion of classic men’s tailoring. But having been in the game for so long, even if consistently managing to stay on top of that game, there comes a point where it’s time to mix things up a little. That time is now, as Stefano Pilati steps in to take the reigns of creative director for Spring 2014. It’s a big step for Zegna, the first time in their history that they have appointed a

marquee designer—and they don’t come with much better pedigree than the likes of Pilati, most recently head designer at Yves Saint Laurent. In the spirit of change, Pilati dutifully mixed things up for the label, with pared back detailing seen on single button blazers (two for a double breast), belted jackets and sleek topcoats. Embossed suiting and injections of colour had the dual purpose of emboldening the wearer and re-energising the label itself.
