prosocial ascensions
by Nick Hild
Citizens are being pushed out of Milan. An increase in economic activity has created an influx of redevelopments that’ve changed Milan into a primary real estate location. While this shift is attracting buyers from all over the world, it has also created a decline for the local citizens.
WHY IS THE SITUATION DECLINING?

HOW DOES THE STRUCTURE EVOLVE?

MODULARITY. Pre-fabricating the units allows variation in size, shape, and orientation. Residents pick or create their unit based on their budget, family size, and accessibility.

If this trend continues, Milan will be developed without its people. A solution to protect these citizens is combining them into a new socioeconomic class. This class creates a network of similar economies that allow the citizens to keep up with the rising cost of living with the addition of connecting new opportunities to one another.

WHO CREATES A NEW CLASS?
Mimicking surrounding materials, the exterior stucco facade represents the vernacular texture of Milan. Bridging tradition and modernism, the buildings archways connect the user to historic Italian architecture. Terraces provide communal gardens for residents while connecting users to nature within their urban environment.
To support this new class, Prosocial Ascensions creates a metabolic living structure that evolves with the residents. Besides residential units, interior spaces can be markets, retail, entertainment, and other relevant programs that will help boost the local economy. The structures can be produced anywhere through a few steps.
