Fall 2014
GREETINGS FROM OUR PRESIDENT To CSC Members We enter 2015 with everything seeming comfortably unchanged: as usual, a schedule of interesting meetings in our comfortable quarters at the College Club. This is an illusion! Due to rent increases and a fall-off in membership, we are now in a precarious position, and need to take emergency action to survive. Greg Lovell will be explaining our financial position to the Board at the January meeting. We are locked into our meeting place for this year, although our reserves will thereby diminish. We will have to consider both raising more revenue and reducing expenses, including in all probability finding a new meeting-place. At the same time, we need candidates for the post of Recording Secretary (who keeps minutes of Board meetings) and for Vice-President, who usually becomes President after a two-year term. Perhaps most of all we need to recapture some lapsed members and to recruit some new ones. I hope, as we all surely hope, that we will find a way to meet these challenges. This may involve developing new fields of ceramic interest, without losing touch with the scholarship that Anne Lanning's programs have always brought to us. Please take this opportunity to think of how y ou c an help China Students Club to continue the march to its centenary! Nicholas Johnson President
