MAIN STREET: Elementary Kids @ RHCC

CHANGES IN THE BACKYARD: PRESCHOOL STUDIO UPDATE Lots of exciting things are happening in The Backyard beginning August 11, 2013! With preschool numbers on the rise and new babies coming weekly, we have decided to open a few more studios! We will now be opening Studio 10 and “Studio 11” or commonly known as the Green Carpet. The Pre-Kindergarten friends will be meeting on the Green Carpet! They will check in and be picked up from this location. Preschool Worship will still happen at the beginning of each hour and once it is complete, “The Backyard” will transform in to “Studio 11.” This will allow the older preschoolers to have more room to learn and grow! We are currently using Room 9 and 10 as one studio but on August 11th, we will close the accordion wall between the two rooms allowing us to use both rooms and have more space for members and guests. 11th,

Starting August many of our preschool friends will promote to a new Studio that week as last year’s pre-K class moves to Main Street for Kindergarten. Stay tuned for more information about where your preschooler’s studio will be! On Promotion Sunday, as you check your child in, be sure to look at their name tag and you will see a studio number printed in the top, left hand corner. !!!!!!!!!!!!How to help preschoolers prepare for something new? • Talk about how fun it will be to see a new room with new teachers! • Reassure them that many of their same Sunday morning friends will still be with them. • Alert Preschool Minister, Anna, and the Sunday morning teachers to any special needs your child may have and any ways we can help make the transition easier for your child.

Starting Sunday, August 11th, elementary kids at Rolling Hills will be moving to new spaces all around Main Street as we continue in our exciting Sunday morning experience for kids. Here’s an overview of several key changes happening August 11th:

• •

Rising Kindergarteners will celebrate their first Sunday on Main Street. After completing check in at the computer kiosk, head into Main Street and walk your child to the designated are for kindergarteners. This is the spot where you will pick them up each Sunday. For subsequent weeks, kids can enter Main Street by themselves. For the first week, just help them locate the right location. All rising 1st through 4th graders will also have brand new locations and even some brand new small group leaders. Just make sure they identify their new spot on August 11th. NEW: This year, 5th graders will remain in Main Street for their final year of elementary school small groups. After two years of promoting pre-teen ministry, we’ve determined that the best way to strengthen middle school ministry is to limit it to students who are actually in middle school. Plus, this means 5th grade ministry will be offered BOTH service times which is a real benefit to many families. 5th Grade Small Groups will be gender based just like middle school groups to help them prepare for middle school next year. They will operate differently from the rest of elementary groups and see some exciting opportunities through the year to serve and grow as key leaders in Main Street on Sundays and Wednesday nights too. NEW: Our discipleship resource center will also open August 11th. Think of it as a camp store with t-shirts, fun stuff, and resources for parents and kids alike to grow deeper in faith.

Ways to help prepare your kids for a new year in Main Street Kids: Talk to your child about promotion Sunday in advance so that moving groups and meeting • new teachers isn’t a surprise. Encourage younger students to be brave and excited as they experience something brand • new just for them. Encourage older 4th and 5th grade students to be leaders and to set great examples for • younger students. Keep elementary kids plugged in weekly. Lessons build on one another and so do • relationships. Consistency counts. They will benefit from regular attendance now and later in life as you set the pattern that participation in church is really valuable. FORT: 6:00-7:30 pm Fort kicks off Wednesday, August 21st with a brand new season of discovering the Bible. This year, we’re adding really exciting group games and large group competitions as well as fun tracks students can sign up to learn about such as video making, art, dance, and more! The first season of FORT runs through October 9th and concludes with Family Worship on October 16th.

HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRY: Starting this fall, we are giving High School students an opportunity to serve on Sunday mornings. Our purpose is to help our older students begin to activate their faith by serving the church body on a weekly basis. When our students graduate from High School, our hope is to send them with a greater understanding of serving like Christ and discovering their place within the Church body. We want to send off students who will plug into a local church wherever they may go to college or community they reside in. This is our future and we have a great opportunity and responsibility to give them tools they can use to lead the Church. With an understanding that serving is important, we also know their small group experience is equally important. On Sunday nights from 5pm-6:30pm, we will have a banquet style dinner and small groups for High School students only. We believe this will provide our students with a space of their own to grow and fellowship with other High School students fostering spiritual growth. High School Small Groups begin on Sunday, September 8th. Here is a timeline for how we will integrate our High School students into areas of service.
