MYVATN RESTAURANT DESIGN STUDIO 5, PROJECT 2

The key elements that inform this building’s designed are the surrounding views, the sunlight conditions and Icelandic culture .

The beginning of the program consists of solid, protective structures that have designed views. As visitors descend south through the building, the materiality begins to break into glazing and skylights.

In a similar fashion, microbiomes are introduced in a gradual fashion to the building. Beginning with a roof garden at the entry, which leads into a small terrarium, which leads to the expansive horticulture greenhouse spaces.

HVERFJALL VOLCANO DESIGN STUDIO 5, PROJECT 1

This observation tower offers hikers a resting place, protection from the elements and designed views of the Myvatn Region. The entrance is designed

as a small cave-like opening that leads to a grand room of windows. The dynamic curves of distant

mountains give form to the large window edges. The Summer and Winter Solstice sun paths influence the

orientation of the structure. And local phenomenons like the Midnight Sun and Nothern Lights can be observed from this space.

238 NONOTUCKET STREET DESIGN STUDIO 4, PROJECT 1

This site was a key element in maintaining the Underground Railroad. To pay homage to the

significant historical events that happened here, 238 Nonotucket St. will be a community center

that advocates for community bonding, cultural

education and personal growth. This building should act as a home away from home for the residents of Florence and the surrounding area.
