COMMUNITY RESOURCES Being connected in one’s community is an important step to making your new city feel like home. All of us have different interests, hobbies and skills and there is certainly something in the Niagara Region for every single one of us. Participating in local events, activities, groups and/or organizations is a great way to expand your social network, learn more about local culture and practice your English. Religious Groups, Churches and Places of Worship Many of Niagara College’s students inquire about religious groups, churches and places of worship to get involved with. To see a full and comprehensive list of all religious organizations/groups in the Niagara Region, please visit welcomeniagaracanada.com/places-of-worship
Volunteering Volunteering is another great way to get involved in your local community. Not only does it feel great to give back, but volunteering is also a wonderful method for developing contacts in your area, making new friends, and gaining additional skills. Social Media Social Media is an excellent tool for connecting with people, communities and organizations. There are a number of social media accounts that we would recommend that our students follow or join. “Welland Recreation and Culture” posts a large variety of informative posts on activities happening in Welland. Additionally, the Facebook group “Niagara Region Family Events” posts about free activities and events happening in the region. Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines also have an assortment of different Facebook groups, Instagram & TikTok accounts that post information about their respective cities and activities happening locally. Please peruse any of your social media accounts and look for local groups to join. And do not forget to follow Niagara College on Instagram and Facebook!
International Student Engagement Team Lastly, our International Student Engagement team hosts a variety of events each month that are tailored to the needs and wants of our international student community. From cultural holiday celebrations to timetable selection sessions, the Engagement team offers so much for our students! By participating in Niagara College’s International Student Events, you will meet students from a variety of different countries as well as your own.
