As we understand looking for a place to stay to in a new country can be an overwhelming experience, Niagara College’s Housing and Settlement team is here to support you and provide you with housing resources. What is a lease or contract? A lease or a Contract Residential Tenancy Agreement, is an agreement which outlines the important terms between yourself (tenant) and the company or individual (landlord) you will be renting from. The lease will include details such as name of both agreement parties, the address of rental unit, outlines terms of monthly rent with inclusions and exclusions, along with the terms of tenancy. It is highly recommended that you always sign a lease with your landlord and make sure you understand all the terms of tenancy and that you agree with it before signing. In Ontario the standard lease is required for most residential tenancy agreements.
